Although only a ruin remains, the Badi Palace in Marrakesh is still an imposing sight. Here a local school class is visiting this impressive witness from the Saadinian times.
Building started in 1578 by Sultan Ahmed al Mansour and lasted for almost 25 years. The name of the palace El Badi means literally "the incomparable one" and must have been quite a sight in its heydays. Today only the outer walls and four sunken gardens in the courtyard remains. In a small hall to the back of the palace the original minbar from the great Koutoubia mosque is on display. This remarkable piece of middle age craftsmanship was commissioned in 1125 in Cordoba/Spain and is a impressive witness to the skills of the middle aged artisans.

I hope this school group eventually realized the main attraction was actually right behind them!! :) An outstanding display of rich color, tones and vibrant light. The sandy orange textures of the ruins work incredibly well in conjunction with the greenery and saturated blue sky. Not only that, but the angle and composition you've taken here makes for a strong perspective, easily guiding us from side to side. These students complete the scene by giving us a good idea of the scope and scale, not to mention the addition of human element. All in all, a very well timed and arranged image! Enjoy the new day. All the best.

questo immenso palazzo doveva essere una vera meraviglia quando fu costruito, ancora oggi se ne puň apprezzare la portata.
Mi piace la foto con la scolaresca in visita.

Being a ruined building it looks imposing under such a bright sky.

Amazing architecture of the Palace. I wonder what are all these holes in the walls. Excellent composition in nice colours.

This is a nice combination of human presence and an ancient building. Although we don't see the children closely they add an important ingredient to the photo just by being there. It's a very well structured composition in three layers of basically blue, light brown and green. I like the fine light and very well saturated colours.

That sky is epic! It creates such a sense of wonder to this shot, and to be honest, when I saw this thumbnail, I thought this was some giant modern hotel, some impressive modern day palace and not the medieval palace it actually is. I guess in a way that's a positive thing, that our most majestic buildings till replicate and hark back to these designs of old. A very impressive combination of colors, the terracotta earth color against this blue sky is just spectacular.
Thanks for teaching me about this wonderful place.

You chose a very good moment to photograph this magnificent architecture and come up with a unique image, the presence of those kids really makes it! Nicely balanced composition along a diagonal line.

Ciao e buone feste

I like the angle at which you have shot this great architectural masterpiece, maximizing the viewer's gaze upon it. The visiting school children is definitely an asset.

among your fine series from Morocco, I like this image most:
a classical perspective, three differently coloured and sharply separated zones, the interesting way this school class has assembled (would Swiss or German pupils behave like that?) and last, but not least: a great sky of a type which Antoine de Saint-Éxupéry, the great pilot and author, only knew too well...
Hope you had a fine Easter, we did.

El Badi Palace indeed is an imposing sight.
You present it here very beautifully with the greenery on the foreground and with that wonderful sky on the background. The blue contrasts well with the red colour of the walls.
I had never seen so many storks on one place. You've included some of them on this picture.
The visiting students add life to the picture.
Best regards, Paul
