Public transportation is not very developed in Marrakech, so if you want to travel accross the town you have two big solutions : knee oil (walk !) and taxis ! In Marrakech taxis are brown / yellow / cream coloured, depending how clean they are. There are two kinds of taxis : small ones and big ones. The small ones are old Fiat, Peugeot or newer Dacia. They have no right to drive outside the town, can board only 3 persons and are equiped with a counter. It means most of the time you know the price and don't need to negotiate (more comfortable for tourists !). And there are the big taxis, a lot of very old Mercedes from 70s and 80s. They are collective taxis and are very used by local people to go outside the town centre. There is no counter, so you have to negotiate. And they tend to be a lot more expensive with tourists (I remember we were asked a very expensive price you could see in Paris for only 2 or 3 kilometres) ! So I can't recommend to take them. But anyway you can enjoy the show in big taxis stations. Here we are in Ibn Rochd street between Jemaa el-Fna square and el Mansour mosquee (you can see it in the background) just before sunset. The place is so busy that it looks disorganized but this is not the case : a man is in charge of filling the taxis depending on their destination. Sometimes the taxis have a lot of passengers, I remember I saw 8 people in one taxi, 5 on rear seats and 3 on front seats (including the driver). The atmosphere in the street is incredible too. It is hard to walk on sidewalks because they are occupied either by garages, either by take away shops (grilled vegetables, fruits, skewers, ...). And all the other ones meet on the road : the taxis, the bicycles, the mopeds, the scooters, the motorcycles, the pedestrians but also ... the donkeys and the horse carriages ! A concentrate of crazy Marrakech that our guides of our trip in the desert a few days later called with a funny name : "la ruina" !

Nice capture ! I believe even the makers of the Benz wouldn't recognise their cars !
TFS and best regards

que deux points sur cette photo? Moi je l'aime beaucoup. L'unité de ton donne une vraie cohérence et la lumière de fin de journée (à priori) est superbe. Une bien belle photo de rue.

I guess old Mercs keep on going almost forever and that's why they are popular on such work. Good wide angle shot full of local ambience and nice evening sky.

I'm a big fan of such taxi photos in the city centres, theres alway something interesting about them.
great note, great story and valuable information about the taxis.
i really like the pov you have here, and even though the architecture on the right is incredibly boring and ugly, its interesting in the photo itself.
cool street shot
