browsing extremely old archives ("old" in the sense of my understanding of photography and composition) I realised I never posted this shot from the middle of Sahara. I know that sky should be clear blue, that there should be an interesting foreground object, but sitting on a camel, like I was when I snapped this shot, is not exactly conducive to a carefull planning of a photo. other than that it was the perfect desert state of mind - just the two of us slowly rocking on the camel backs, the weather is warm, but not too hot, around +20C, light wind in our faces, quiet whistling of a guide as he leads the two animals shuffling their feet on the dry sand, and the pure pleasure of knowing that there's no need to rush anywhere.

the Sahara ("The Great Desert" in Arabic) is the world's largest hot desert and the world's second largest desert after Antarctica; it is almost as large as the continental United States, and is larger than Australia. it has been reported that the Sahara is expanding south by as much as 30 miles per year, overwhelming degraded grasslands, taking over the Sahel, the dry tropical savanna that has defined the Sahara's southern limit. global climate changes and poor farming methods have been given as possible causes of this spreading of deserts known as "desertification". the locals we spoke to confirmed that extensive artificial irrigation has affected the balance in the ecosystems at the edges of the desert draining the underground water. we saw the sand slowly taking over what had obviously been farms not too long ago.

Beautiful :-)

I love the colors and the contrast while the background of the rock alittle bit bothers me ... Anyway, nice shot :-)

TFS,

Shahab,

Hi Kristine,

thank you for posting this old one. We all have good ones in the drawer. It's an enigmatic place. I love those curves..don't know they look sensual for me. Very good compo, fine details and good light. I like this a lot!
Regards,
Carlos

hi Kristine, wonderful composition and nice send colours.

Hello Kristine. When you have a shot like this in your shoe box. The rest must be much more stunning. I would post one immediately if it is in my possession. Stunning undulating sand in pleasant lightness and shadow. The detail texture is just stunning. No need for a blue sky as this is just simple and gorgeous. Thanks for sharing and best regards. Jusni

impressive colors with excellent contrast and POV. the clarity is perfect. Use of filter?

Hi Avene, the sky is blue enough, what I like about this shot is the textures. I like the fine texture and colour seen in the sand, but I like too the look of waves with the sand. There are actually "lips" on the crests of the sand dunes. The lighting in this shot of yours is very good giving us very good shadow detail.

Thanks, John

heyyy ;)) CONGRATULATIONS on your well masked 100th! love the color, sand shapes and... the far background object: a huge piece of rock belonging to ALGERIA... very nice and pleasing celebratory post!

hugs,

Hi Kristine,
Another impressive and splendid shot very well composed with excellent colors' saturation and fine adjustments. The curves are beautiful with good definition. Well done! Best regards, Consuelo

Hi Kristine,
first of all congratulations for this great milestone!!
a nice 3D effect here with the textures of the sand making the shot beautiful to look at. I really like the great feeling of silence and vastity you managed to bring in. Excellent one!
Thanks for sharing it and regards.
Have a great weekend

Igor

i loved the erg chebi are as well ! so fantastic to walk through this small part of the sahara

Hello Kristine:

One viewpoint impressive.

I seem to be viewing the curves of a beautiful lady in a horizontal position. Large tracts arid although regrettable by the global warming, it is curious that cause so much beauty as this scene.

Sound management of lighting, excellent tones and perfect frame.

John

So... You are 100 now , eh ??
And a great 100 it is !
You are all in curves and bends, hot and seductive...

You said: Just the two of you... You and the camel only...
Oh, well...
Dumping K. was maybe the smartest thing around...
You'd never know... :-)))

Great production, Kristine...
A cure for sore eyes...

Hi, Kristine -

Well, you're off to a good start in your desert quest! It doesn't matter that the classic tourist-on-camel isn't in here; the tuft of grass and especially the hills in the distance (something I didn't see when we were there) make this shot interesting without it.

And the sky is about right, too.

Best,
Dan

The posts you make of your deserts Kristine I can see that it will be to all out advantage that you visit them all. You capture a life in these remote areas that many can't/don't see or feel and I think we are all better of for havinf seen your shots.

Hi Kristine,
Outstanding texture and lines to the rolling sand dunes. The brilliant golden color to the sand is wonderful complimented by the deep blue cloudless desert sky. Simple landscape blessed with intense beauty. Opps I almost forgot to extend congratulation on your 100th post! You chose a beauty for the occasion.
Regards, Tom

Helo Kristine
Amaizing and what cane man say more...

That is such a vibrant busrt of textures and colours. It oozes energy and is an absolute delight. Great composition and lovely idea

Hi Kristine,
A beautiful desertscape of gently undulating sand dunes with wonderful warm colouring. I like the hints of details like the little ripples in the sand and the grass, and beyond the dunes the contrast of the grey mountains.

Wanda

Hi Kristine,

Very good capture of the design on the Sand Dune...
When are you visiting Dubai and Oman .. i can help...

Hi Kristine!
Congratulations your 100th photo on TE; beautiful shot of this interesting place. I like the formations of sand dunes on your photo, the warm colors and the clarity as well.
Thanks, Csilla

OK, I give up! I tried to resist to the appeal of your picture but I can't. I love the color and the shapes (I'd love to swim, jump and roll myself in it... after a picture of the sand dunes, virgin of tracks, of course) An excellent light, and, I'm sure, a very pleasant journey.
Regards,
Marine

Amazing view of the desert, dear Kristine !
Marocco has excellent view like this one. I like the colours and the sand 'waves'. Light very well managed.
Best wishes

Hello Kristine,

I love it! It's absolutely amazing! Colours, composition, light...and the place itself. I have a weakness to this kind of desert - camel - Arabic shot:)
This time I simply have nothing to write except - superb shot;)

Have a nice week!

Olá Kristine,

It is a good capture of an interesting and beautiful place.

hi Kristine
You captured fantastic light in a really good composition. I am impressed by the details and colours of your photo
really good one
didier

Kristine,
seeing this one I can understand why you call yourself to be aperson in love with the desert. You should get to know the American Soutwest and you would have it all, including the sand dunes that you got here. The dificulty is just always foreseing the composition so that you don't out your footprints into the landscape ;-)
Perfect moment of the day to get this shot!
Peter

I remember...I saw the black desert and their silent dunes...I recognize their colours, their mobile curves...I only have to watch and thank you.
Best regards,
Sonsoles.

Hi Kristine,
I like the sensation of calm that gives this image, the light, the contrasts and the warm color are wonderful.
well done
regards, joRge

A note to the author: There is an interesting theory, which says that the expansion and shrinking of Sahara is a repeating process - eventualy the expansion will stop and it will collapse in its initial borders. In the Lybian desert there are plenty of fireplaces, temples and other archeological stuff in the desert, that had been once a savana...

Regards,

Asparuh

Hello Kristine,

Ce genre d'image me fait rêver... I'd like to visit desert !
Magnifiques courbes, et couleurs.

Hi Kristine,
Magnificent curves! I like this sight taken in height ( from the camel) which lets appear bluish mountains in the bottom. Colors are magnificent as well as the definition and the relief given by the shadows.
I have to go one day in the desert!
Congratulations

Not too late to celebrate...you don't look that old Kristine:-). You choose a great one for this special milestone...sensuous, warm, curvy, nature loving...I love it. Makes me want to touch that sand...superb colors and light. To be a bit difficult, :-)I may have cropped just above the hills in the bg, because of the duller color of the sky. Nothing in the foreground is perfect here:-).
Funny feeling sitting on a camel hehe, like being on a boat, you managed greatly ! Hope to see you around for a long long time dear K&K!

Warm regards
Michèle

Hello Kristine
Flaming colours, undisturbed dunes, crafted by nature & untouched by man (footprints)... a simple picture which perhaps is an expression of the euphoria you experienced when you saw these dunes for the first time. Would it have been possible to compose it in some sort of diagonal?
And I just saw this was your 100th post! Your first landmark in this site. Great knowing you here, seeing your pictures, learning from them & wish to see many, many more (Kristaps also reached this milestone recently)
Best Regards

Hi Kristine,
Simply...WONDERFUL!
And congratulations for your 100th!
Let me just have this picture flying over into my faves... here she goes.
Hell, after having mum & sister visiting over here I went through almost 2 weeks of heavy overtime on my work to catch up with all sort of stuff, hence my silence. I'm fine now and back on schedule, so I'll check out little by little what else you posted lately.
Meanwhile : have a great day, I'll see you soon.

Hi Krisitine
a nice view on the desert with a good series od curves

Hi Kristine,
So you forgot your 100th, and I missed it (but looking at the submission date, I see that you posted when I was off to the meeting in Lille). You couldn't have made a better choice to mark this your first TE milestone as it's a very graphical shot with all these curves and the saturated color. Deserts are always so photogenic!
Cheers.
Bibi

Dear Kristine,
Nice pic! I've always wanted to visit a desert and this photo makes me want to visit a desert even more. Nice colours and composition.

Hi Kristine,

Old is Gold.. and a precious image for the 100TH POST :)
Sensual, cool, yet a volcanic depth in colours..
The image has the music, and somewhere deep down in minds, a strange passion curves along, like the desert winds...
Precious !!
Smile the days, dear friend.
