Driving down from High Atlas mountains, we leaver the N9 road a few kilometres before arriving in Ouarzazate and we have a break in Aït-Ben-Haddou to eat and visit the village. It is known for its ksar, a fortified city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. The village is made of adoble buildings inside defensive walls with angle towers. From what I read on the internet the village dates from 17th century but it was restored recently. The vilage is very fragile because the buildings can be damaged with rainstorm. Only eight families live inside the ksar today, the others live in the modern part of the village. A lot of films have been shot in the village on last decades, including some very famous : Lawrence of Arabia, Babel, Prince of Persia, Alexander or Gladiator for example. There are other ksars in this part of Morocco, but Aït-Ben-Haddou is the best preserved one.
About the picture ... It was token from the bed of Assif Ounila wadi that was dry at that time of the year. I had not good light conditions since it was token in the afternoon and the sky was mostly cloudy. But it is such a famous place to visit in the area that I had to include it in my travelogue !

Bonjour Olivier ,
