The Ksar of Aït Ben Haddou is a communal housing compound, typical of a type of construction that is traditional to the Maghreb. The buildings lie in a strategic position against a mountain. They have angle towers and are surrounded by steep defensive walls.
The Ksar consists of larger and smaller private houses, but also communal areas like a market place and a mosque. All are made from moulded earth and clay brick. The walls and towers are often ornamented with decorative motifs.
The town has been protected by the Moroccan authorities since 1953, and is still inhabited.

Hi Wanda, Of the many images of this place on TE this composition is to my mind the most imaginative - the great choice of POV really makes this work. cheers, Steve

Une façon originale de présenter ce Ksar avec ce cadrage particulier mais intéressant.

Never seen Aït Ben Haddou from this pleasant POV
Nice colors, luminosity and nice framing of the inside of the ksar by the outer walls
Have a nice day
Bet to you

what a fascinating POV and composition. So many textures and shapes. A wonderful light with flawless clarity and DOF. Perfect execution and control and presented impressively. Bravo!

It isn't obvious to photograph such a monumental gate from backlight but you've managed to create a great mood doing so. You've used the towers to frame the city, although they are interesting by themselves, so I would say it's a two-in-one deal.
I like the warm colours, the details found throughout your image and the angle that brings a lot of dynamism to your composition. Special mention for the nice gradient in the sky.

Dag dear Wanda!
What an amazing building! Is the structure made of baked clay bricks as it appears?
The distortion & falling lines due to the wide lens fits in well here. Good contrast with the clear blue sky. Through the gate we see the old town. Must be fascinating!

I was here, but I have not got to open the file from this part yet, I was here in the middle of the day, the light was not that good and I don't expect any good shot from here. I don't even remember such a good POV like you have here. It is really wonderful and the light is just lovely, the earth tone is rich and deep, like rich creamy chocholate. Yum! Okay mind off the food. I also really like the subdue but rich tone of the blue sky, so clear and neat, no noise what so ever. Really one of the best I seen of this place.
thanks. I only hope come out half as good.
