‘Marrakech - Simply red’
I've always felt a special attraction to ancient cities that are surrounded by a wall. In Marrakech I found clearly my liking.
I've already posted two pictures (one in a workshop) of the walls of Marrakech. Hereby my third (and last) one.
Why are these walls so attractive to me?
First there are of course the aspects of the protection of the town, the impressive feel of these defenses and the beauty of the entrance gates.
In Marrakech there’s also the exotic feeling with the palmtrees in front of the walls and behind them.
At least this is the case for someone coming from a northern country.
But another important aspect in Marrakech is the colour of the walls.
That colour varies depending on the time of the day and of course on the weather.
As the two other pictures posted before this one is also taken with a setting sun behind me which makes that the walls become fiery red.
A red I will never forget.

Hello Paul. Wall with archways and palm trees. A typical photograph of the Moroccan architecture. The red ocher is a distinctive feature. Fine composition, very beautiful colors. Rgds, Wolfgang.

Dag best Paul,
Le célèbre rouge de Marrakesh et ses toutes aussi célèbres murailles très bien présenteé ici avec une très belle lumière et un cadrage idéal. Les ombres usr les murs ( le palmier et surtout le réverbère) donnent un très bel effet graphique.

I love the warm tones in this beautiful composition. Love the subtle shadows on the wall, they look like they have been burnt on. This sort of colour just seems to go so well with green and light blue. Impressive image well executed.
Have a splendid weekend - regards Brian.

J'aime bien le titre qui convient parfaitement à la couleur que ce mur reflète au coucher de soleil. Il offre une diagonale parfaite dans l'image.

this is also what I like, when pictures are taken with the best light, when it emphasizes the colors, and also when it makes some long shadows, like the palmtrees here on the wall.
I also agree with you,for the fascination and the feeling given by ancient and exotic city.
And this is why I like this picture very much.

Mooi foto werk, bedankt.

The elements of this scene say a lot about the city's age and its climate through the old wall and such an exotically looking palm-trees. Excellent composition, warm sunset light, beautiful colors, perfect quality and very informative and even philosophic note!
axiotea (21649) 2011-08-06 11:45
Bon angle de vue sur ce mur qui traverse l'image, créant ainsi une diagonale intéressante dans le cadre. J'apprécie les tons orangers, la présence des dattiers de chaque coté du mur qui renforcent l'exotisme de cet endroit.
paololg (31448) 2011-08-07 5:34
Yes dear Paul, simply but beautiful red! These ancient walls contrast in pleasant way with the sky and the green grass. An interesting testimony of this beautiful Moroccan city, captured with excellent photo quality. Bravo!
Ciao, have a nice evening and a good week!

You asked why this walls are so attractive to you?
They are attractive to every one !
When I was there I walked along them at sunset and took photos and more photos
Yours is creative for the shades o the palm trees
More than red is orange in my opinion
Greetings and TFS
Angshu (54877) 2011-08-24 21:24
The red (in this case orange) colour of the wall is certyainly interesting. Nicely balanced composition with the tree and its shadow & also a shadow of a flag, which is beyond the frame. The diagonal creates depth & the warm-cold colour contrast makes it beautiful. Yes I do observe from your earlier posts about how the walls change colours with the ambient light! Good work!

I guess it is the same place I shot few days ago, anyway in marrakesh this can be only an illusion. haha. most of marrocan important cities are surrounded by walls and it is impressive they weren't demolished like in europe or south america, I guess it is because style of life.. very beautiful image where the walls and the palm trees are well positioned. good job.
