I could not even look at this for months after because of the vile stench of rotting carcasses. The sprig of mint they give you to hold over your nose helps a bit.
You are better to research the tanneries before you go as there are a lot of touts waiting to make a quick dollar or 3.
From Wikitravel: "Visiting the Tanneries can be an interesting experience. Even if some people tell you the area is only for locals, it is possible to visit the Tanneries without paying a youngster. After finding a Tannery, ask one of the workers if you can visit it and take pictures. The tanneries are at the east end of Avenue Bab El Dabbagh. That 'main' tannery, Dar Dbagh, where they seem to channel all the tourists is near the Bab Debbagh gate. You'll be quickly approached by a guide who'll give you a sprig of mint and tell you that the tour is no charge. At the end of the tour you may be asked for as much as 100 MAD for a "tip". This is far too much (9 EU). Give no more than 10-20 MAD and ignore the stinkeye they may give you. If you hate or are bad at haggling, show them before the tour how much you will pay them."

The buildings are framing well the tannery. The point of view is showing the leather drying on the roofs. The good luminosity is bringing out the colours. Have a nice day.

looks like good advice to me,I guess that it`s not the place for the faint hearted!
It`s interesting to see the skins laid out to dry in the FG with the satellite dishes lining the roofs behind.
A fine travel shot.

En plein été, cela ne sent pas très bons aux alentours de ces tanneries. On se demande bien comment ils font pour travailler dans de telles situations, Tu sembles avoir approché les opérations de très près.

I have been in this place many years ago when as student went to Morocco. I remember very well the smell and how little time I spent there for this reason. The picture however is great and my congratulations for bearing the hardship to take it. High POV gives very good perspective over the spread skins and the buildings around. Nice quality in all terms.

A nice shot of the inside of one of Marrakech's famous tanneries, and a few good tips to boot, Chris. Certainly a place I'd love to visit someday. This is a nicely done documentary shot with good light that reveals much of the texture of the hides spread out below. Thanks!

I can just imagine the smell but I guess if one lives nearby they'd get used to the smell. My cousin lives close to dairy farms and depending on the wind direction the smell could be bad but they are getting used to it. Nice documentation of the daily life of people with good details. Well done, tfs.

this looks like a timeless place, your composition features a delightful play of perspectives that renders the view very vibrant and gives it great depth. I love the sharpness, the colours and the play of light and shadows -there's superb graphism in this composition. At the top of the buildings, before the relief of the smooth blue sky, the sense of timelessness is dispelled by the tv dishes. The textures are most interesting too. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,

I think you were telling me about this when we met. I am so glad I am getting to see it unaccompanied by the sense of smell. Good documentary photo with great colors, DOF and light.
