The Ziz River flows south east out of the Atlas Mountains into the western Sahara Desert. Taken from a lookout near the dinosaur museum and cafe. The trees in the valley are date palms, so this is one massive oasis! The plateaux either side are quite dry, barren and inhospitable. Not the best time of day for photography but taken enroute to Erg Chebi between Midelt and Erfoud, in a 4wd tour vehicle, so not a lot I could do about it, other than increase saturation and contrast a little.
If you look carefully you will spot 2 towns in the bg, one on the spur at left and another on the opposite side of the river in the mid distance. Both are built above the flood plain and away from any usable fertile land.

Hello dear Chris,
Very nice capture of this green walley midst of the desert.
Good pov and good layout. One can see how important the water is.
TFS and best regards

We are neigbourns today, very proud of it!
I will write about this capture to have the pleasure and honor to be one of the first to watch and comment
Very informative note of an interesting place, an oasis of date palms in the desert..taken from a lookout not from a camel
Watching this capture I understand what you write about composition rules
This is a perfect exemple of composition, horizon high and the curves to led the eyes to the far back
Did you noticed that the colors are the same of the Irish flag?
Well done, thanks for the lesson

I always find it so incredible to find such a clear line that separates very abruptly the fertile of the barren land.
Something approximately similar I've seen in Ladakh where the fertile area is a thin strip of land next to the Indus and then suddenly barren land where nothing grows anymore.
You've chosen an excellent high POV that allows us to see that the residents didn't want to waste one meter precious fertile ground to build their homes inside the oasis.
This is also an attractive composition with the winding lines of the greenery.
Best regards, Paul

La longueur de l'oasis donne de la profondeur à la composition. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails, les couleurs du désert et de l'oasis. La bonne luminosité fait ressortir les couleurs. Bonne soirée.

Hi Chris. All things considered, it is a fine photo capturing the contrasts between the barren and the fertile and also the uncompromising, piercing light of the Moroccan sky. I've got several shots of the same valley but I am still trying to find out the names of some of the towns before I post- probably a mission impossible. Regards. Klaudio.

Interesting how the entire vegetation is concentrated along the valley. A spectacular contrast of colors and textures. Well taken, have a fine day.

C'est toujours impressionnant de voir ces oasis luxuriants au milieu du désert et comme la nature exploite la moindre trace d'eau pour se développer. Très bon point de vue sur ce spectaculaire paysage.

nice the view of the palms trees in the valley, with the reddish sides to contrast perfect with the green of them.I like the way that outline on the valley alongside the Ziz river making, this spectacular zigzag.
I have visited this place five years ago when i visited the country.

On voit bien ce que l'eau peut faire à un paysage désertique.Cela pousse énormément et c'est très luxuriant. On suit le cours comme celui d'une rivière.

this is a fascinating shot and one that I think is fairly unique to TE. The river's course can be clearly seen with the winding stretch of greenery defining its route. An intriguing and quite wonderful piece of imagery, I like it a lot.

Such a sharp division between a green valley and bare brown desert looks stunning. And is an excellent reminder on how important water is for everyone. A good high viewpoint for showing this.

Hello Chris - I think it is quite tricky to convey the impact of arriving at such a scene after a ride through the desert, we have a similar river valley in Namibia and I am always impressed by the fertility of the area and the contrast of rock and lush greenness. You have done well here, the contrast is quite apparent and Seeing the small houses in the township underlines just how vital water is... it must be the earth's single most valuable resource. Excellent! Warm regards Rosemary

Hi Chris, great view of this interesting valley in the desolation of the desert, like a miracle, the green stripe surrounded by dry land, very well captured with a great pov, in this very good and nice photo. An interesting picture with good sharpness, depth and quality. A nice, good job perfectly done, congratulations my friend. Thanks for sharing this interesting work.
Good night and happy weekend.
Warm greetings from southern Spain.

I've been in Merzouga just 2 weeks ago and I can confirm this photo shows a typical landscape of this area of Morocco. I've not been exactly there, but I could see such valleys on the road between Ouarzazate and Merzouga. There's a kind of magic to see so much green in the middle of a desert area.
Have a nice week end,

A river of vegetation! This is a spectacular view and you've done quite well in presenting it in high quality. Excellent composition, with careful framing, great DOF and colors. It looks like there is some sort of a settlement in the foreground, as well. Congrats and TFS!
