Cette photo du "Cap Spartel" à Tanger date de 2005…en la prenant, tout sourire, étant à l’époque résident de Marrakech, je n’avais nulle idée que la destinée finira par me posser vers la ville du détroit.

"Cap Spartel" ou "Ras Spartel" en arabe est à pratiquement 14 kilomètres à l'ouest de Tanger. Face au cap Spartel, à 44 km au nord, le cap Trafalgar marque l'entrée nord du détroit, sur la côte espagnole.
Le phare qui figure sur la photo est à 110 m d'altitude, un phare qui commença à fonctionner le 15 octobre 1864. Sa construction fut ordonnée par le sultan Mohammed IV ben Abderrahman, à la demande des représentants consulaires des puissances européennes alarmées par les nombreux naufrages qui se produisaient au large du cap. La lumière du phare est visible à 30 milles marins (55,6 km).

"Cape Spartel" in Tangier. When I took this photo in 2005, all smiles, and being at that time a resident of Marrakech, I had no idea that destiny will eventually push me towards the white city (Tangier).

"Cape Spartel" or "Ras Spartel" in Arabic is about 14 kilometers west of Tangier. Facing the "Cape Spartel", 44 km to the north, Cape Trafalgar marks the northern entrance of the Gibraltar strait on the Spanish coast.
The lighthouse in the photo is 110 m above sea level, a lighthouse which began operations on October 15th 1864. Its construction was ordered by the Sultan Mohammed ben Abderrahman IV, at the request of the consular representatives of the European powers alarmed by the many shipwrecks that occurred off Cape. The lighthouse is visible from 30 nautical miles (55.6 km).
