Photographer’s Note
Shot at the Mohammed V Mausoleum and Hassan Mosque complex.
The place is the ground of a huge mosque built in the 12th century which construction was never finished. The only remains of that mosque are some columns (which supposedly came from some nearby Roman ruins) and the minaret that is visible on the photo, known as Hassan Tower and one of the icons of Rabat. The place was used on the 1960's to build the Mausoleum and Mosque of King Mohammed V.
I have posted other photos of this place, along with some more detailed notes on the place and its monuments:
«Hassan tower I», «Hassan tower II», «Mohammed V Mausoleum and Mosque» and «Mohammed V Mausoleum».
I have also other photos in WS's:
* A zoomed and cropped version of «Hassan tower II»
* A zoomed view of «Mohammed V Mausoleum and Mosque»
* A couple of views shot near the base of the tower: «towards the sea (West)» and «towards Sale (North)».
* A portrait of a royal guard in duty at one of the doors of the mausoleum. TE member Gustaw has a nice post with a close-up of another guard.
I have a 'travelogue' of this trip of mine to Morocco (not a real travelogue, I have set it up just to group the posts).

Ah, an actor on the scene and most problaby he couldn't run away, so he posed nicely dressed up to the nines, required by his function, must be terrible all time in the full sun. most of your shots are very clear sunny, so is this one, a pleasure to see these light fine saturated/contrasted colors, a good portrait Jose.

Ola Jose,
This colorful guard adds even more context as well as the human touch to the nice architecture to be seen behind, the colors and contrasts are very good except for the whites that tend to be a bit hot, especially looking at the chest, but not that bad after all, pleasant photo.
Have a nice day,

Olá José,
with this POV the tower seems to be very small. You have managed the light and sharpness excellent. I think the composition would need a bit more space on the right to take the guard with the horse out of the center. And I like, that the guard is not looking into the camera or straight over his horse. This is just some life in the photo.
Cheers, Ulf

Hello Jose -
This is a well executed image. The first thing that strikes me is the composition all of the verticals in the image that work together. the second thing that strikes me is the quality of the exposure, even though it is mid-day you have managed to maintain quality of colors and hues throughout the image. The good depth and sharpness in the image. Well done!!
Thank you for sharing

Hi Jose ,
The same quality as usual , colours , sssharpness , and so on . Maybe a slightly to the right pov , including whole tower would have be better ?

i hope your travels are going well, your photos are perfect in describing the culture and its people and architecture together. The uniform seems very heavy and think for the heat, but i suppose he must be used to wearing it by now, bye.

Hello Jose,
The vertical lines form the character of this well balanced and calculated photo. I think, shadow of the flag is the highlight of this wonderful shot.

Hi Jose!
I like these African shots of yours. Here I love the composition. The soldier on the horse back almost seems fake, some sort of statue. Well, at least the horse... its colors make it seem to be made out of clay while the rider seems to be made of some white marble. They'dlook great in Madame Tussaud's Wax museum.
The wall and the tower in the background fit in really well. Indeed the Roman columns seem a bit out of place next to the Arabian tower but the rusty color integrates them in the composition. I find the green plants out of place but that's just my opinion and there's obviously nothing you could've done about them.
Very nice shot!

Olá José
Está muito giro, mesmo que seja só para turista ver (às tantas, não é). Fez-me lembrar as guerras entre mouros e cristãos.
Um abraço, F.
