Photographer's Note

Another photo taken within the complex of the Mausoleum of Mohammed V. The man with the fez, from my previous Moroccan photo stood in front of the building you see to the left of the column.

The partly restored columns were part of the hall of the grand mosque which had a roof of cedar but which was destroyed by the great earthquake of 1755 which also destroyed central Lisbon. The mosque was to be the world's largest. The Hassan Tower was to have been the world's largest minaret and was never completed, yet it still dominates the kasbah.
