SALA COLONIA, a photo from Rabat-Sale, North

Photographer's Note

Here we can see an internal view of Chellah, you can see the ramparts that surround the Roman ruins and the muslin cemetery. While walking there we can find Roman rocks, ruined sculptures and the base of ancient Roman houses. Sala Colonia was founded by Romans and abandoned some centuries after, but it was occupied by the locals that conserved the same language and religion until the Arabs invaded the place and people were moved to Salé. At 13th century a sultan created a necropolis and an Islamic complex and surrounded them by ramparts.

Vemos aqui a parte interna da Chellah, vocês podem ver as muralhas que rodeiam a antiga cidade romana de Sala Colonia e o cemitério muçulmano. Enquanto caminhamos por lá podemos ver pedras com letras em latim, pedaços de esculturas e fundações da cidade romana. Sala Colonia foi fundada pelos romanos que ali ficaram por algum tempo, depois abandonaram a cidade que continuou ocupada pelos locais que conservaram o idioma e a religião. Com a chegada dos árabes a população foi transferida para Salé. No século 13 um sultão ergueu um complexo islâmico no lugar com uma necrópole e rodeou tudo com muralhas.

A clear, nicely saturated picture with a good POV.

Strange, isn't it, terms like "occupation", "conquest" or "invasion" differ with respect to the historian that writes history? :-)

nice the view of the old ruins of the place with the part of the Roman column to dominates the image under the 'shadow' of the near by castle.I like the brilliant light and colour management as the contrast of the colours.

Ola Jorge,
Two eras of building the place is notable: the upper part is some of centuries ago, and what remained under the lined wall in more ancient, to the beginning of the Roman time's. 13th century looks only the mid section on the fort.
Fine mingled details of old archi., good light upon and contrast on brown to blue.

Um bom detalhe em primeiro plano e uma boa composição! Gosto da nitidez e das cores. Estas cores da arquitectura marroquina resultam sempre bem, especialmente com este céu azul!
