Out tour took us to the ancient Phoenician and Roman city of Volubilis and while we walked along the impressive ruins of this once great city, my attention was drawn by a modern city five kilometres away,gleaming white against the mountain. Its beauty and mystery reminded me of Samuel Coleridge's poem Kubla Khan. I include a part of the poem most relevant to the white city I admired in the distance.
By Samuel Taylor Coleridge
...So twice five miles of fertile ground
With walls and towers were girdled round;
And there were gardens bright with sinuous rills,
Where blossomed many an incense-bearing tree;
And here were forests ancient as the hills,
Enfolding sunny spots of greenery...
Moulay Idriss or Moulay Idriss Zerhoun (Arabic: مولاي إدريس), a town in northern Morocco located at34°3′15″N 5°31′38″WCoordinates: 34°3′15″N 5°31′38″W, is spread over two hills at the base of Mount Zerhoun, the holy town of Moulay Idriss Zerhoune holds a special place in the hearts of the Moroccan people. It was here that Moulay Idriss I arrived in 789, bringing with him the religion of Islam, and starting a new dynasty. In addition to founding the town named after him, he also initiated construction of Fez, continued later by his son, Moulay Idriss II.
The ruins of the Phoenician and Roman city of Volubilis are located just five kilometers away.

Hello Kaludio ,
What an interesting and beautiful view ! I like especially the shape of the village , like a bird , and the contrast of the white houses with the dark moutains in the BG . The fields with olive-trees provide a superb FG .

isn't that funny...your tour leads you to subject A, but while at subject A you notice subject B and think...i want to go there!!!!
So did you end up visiting the modern city in the hills? looks like a wonderful place for some photos.
and yet this photo is just as nice too. the town is squeezed in tightly against the hillside and is predominantly white - very interesting!!
I want to see photo's of that town.
great story and photo

Hello Kaludio ,
the contrast between the light and the shadow areas make the image appear to be almost 3D.
With the houses curving along the rolling hills it`s a most interesting and spectacular landscape.
Gorgeous detail and colour,very well done.
Best regards Les.

hello Klaudio, No wonder you were attracted by this city among the hills. the mostly white houses look fabulous against the dark forest. And I spot a
mosque there. I like also the foreground with some trees, maybe olives, and grey agaves. Stunning sharpness, so many details here! But I would be very interested also with Volubilis, I haven't been there and I love ruins :(.

Certainly not an image I would have ever associated with Morocco...most everything pictured is usually within a city itself, or the surrounding desert of sand and dry earth. This is a real treat to see, and it's beautifully presented to counter the stereotypical imagery of the country. Loving the shadow cast over the hillsides, creating a more subdued play of light and shade, while making for a stronger contrast against the brightly colored village. You poem is very fitting to the scenery, very well put together in every sense. This is quite a pleasing photo, thanks for bringing to light (pun intended :)) something new. Enjoy the day ahead. Take care,
All the best,

So beautiful photo of this small town which looks very idyllic. The white houses looks almost like diamonds spreaded among the green hills. Really nice work!

Hi dear Klaudio,
You're capturing well this city by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the city with crowded houses of white wall which spreads in the foot of a mountain. It harmonizes with the surrounding green well and ups and downs of hill. And, it's impressive in the depth of green, too.

a picturesque town here under the feet of mountain. You captured it nicely using a very good POV. Depth is awesome and great colour contrast. Love it a lot. Tfs.

I recently went to neighboring Fez and would have liked more time in the area to see both Meknes and Fez. A superb high pov with good sharpness and superb colour and saturation, and I like the division into 4 elements here of sky, mountains city and forested fg. Tfs!
