Photographer’s Note

The following informations about Western Mauritius are from http://www.go2africa.com/mauritius/western-mauritius/

WESTERN MAURITIUS:
The beaches on the west coast of Mauritius are justifiably famous, and the beaches at Flic en Flac and Le Morne provide excellent windsurfing, waterskiiing, diving and snorkelling. Flic en Flac is a popular place with Mauritians because of its proximity to Port Louis and the inland towns, and at weekends it can get pretty crowded. Le Morne is much more isolated and has been developed as an upmarket tourist spot. Inland, the west contains areas of great beauty with wild mountains and what remains of Mauritius's indigenous forests. The Black River Gorges National Park was opened in 1997 to preserve this beauty. Here you can go for some excellent walks with the opportunity to see some plants and birds that are only found in Mauritius. Chamarel, a little village north of Le Morne, is blessed with the twin attractions of the Chamarel Falls - the highest in Mauritius - and the Coloured Earths. The Chamarel Coloured Earths are a unique geological phenomenon, where a rolling earthen landscape displays multicoloured earths that never fade and never mix.
