Class IV Tropical Cyclone Dina passed north of Mauritius on 22 January 2002. All 66 kv electrical network on the island was damaged, rendering the entire island with no electricity for 2 days.Water supply had been affected mostly due to mud and debris
getting into the system and because of the cut in electricity supplies.
After the storm, I walked out of the hotel and to see the extent of the destruction. Here is a shot of a car crushed under the collapsed roof of local house. |
