It is obvious that in desert, water is life. It is the first water hole at 4 days of walk from Chinguetti and we will not have an other one before 4 other days. You have to be sure the tanks are waterproofs.
This water hole was 15m deep before reaching the water. It took 30min to fill all the tanks and 30min more to fill the ones of the women living in tent near this hole.

===============

Hello Yves,
Thanks for sharing the experience. I've never been to any desert before and this looks pretty harsh. The mood and toils for hard work is well demonstrated here.
Regards,
Jusni

yes, water is life. hiking in desert is trek indeed. the background is natural, but the faces are a bit dark. TFS

I walys like thse images which document life so well. the etxtures are gerata nd the hues are superb. ncie job indeed.

Salut Yves,

Water is truly scarse in this place. I wonder what is like to walk for days with a ration of water. Interesting shot as the two men above the well seem to ba talking on cellphones. Your note is also very informative about the hardships or challenges people have to endure in this place. Thanks Yves :-)

Salut Yves,
Ce sceau est une passoire! L'image est belle, à contre-jour, bien construite et instructive.

Hello Yves,
You added another excellent photo to your North African safari. I like your sillouetted style here. I would have added fill-flash but this may not have been a good thing for this photo. That is my style, for better or worse. This adds another human interest photo and it gives us a sense of how arid this area is and how precious water is in these parts. This photo reminds me of the scene in "Lawrence of Arabia" when Omar Sharif shot a competing tribesman for taking water out of his well without his permission. Peter O'Toole (Lawrence) was appalled, but this was the nature of this region for centuries. For the tribesmen water historically has been more precious than gold. Well done!

Hello, Yves -

Even when I drive through the American desert on the interstate, I carry water in the car. You never know.

Although the shadows and the light are a little off here, this is a great shot. The curves of the well are matched by the curves of the people, and I also like the combination of traditional and modern water carriers.

Nice capture!
Dan
