[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
An early morning in Djenné in central Mali. The sun has not yet drenched everything in bright light and dark shadows. A few boys enjoy the relative coolness of the morning while playing beside the city's great mosque.
Djenné is classified as a world heritage by the UNESCO because of its unique architecture, the finest example being this mosque from 1906.
Scanned from a Kodachrome slide.

Hi Gert,
excellent ! Not only the quality of scan, also the crop, colours, the wonderful architecture, everything..
You couldn´t make it better.
Cheers Christian

Hello Gert,
it looks like you had many interesting travels, in places which were probably not so used to see tourists in the early 80s or so.
I like this picture, with the impressive mosque and the local people.
Regards Stefano

Hej Gert, they keep on fascinates me, those central westafrican mosque:s, good to include the boys in their kaftans to give a more human tuch on it.

Hello Gert,
This one has an amazing feel of the sizes and shapes.
The huge rising mosque wall with design has a towering effect over the boys.No wonder these building form a part of the world heritage. They look unique and quite different from mosque structures here in India.
Nicely composed.
TFS & Cheers

Very good, clear shot, accurately composed. Another moment preserved for ever...

Hello Gert

I love the composition of this picture. The format sets the scene vertically from top to bottom and vice versa, in a balanced way. The fantastic tones, which produces graphics architecture is magnificent, and the characters stimulate the event.

Hi Gert, Your scanner seems to have done a great job on this slide. Wouldn't have guessed that it wasn't digital capture. I like the placement of the boys in the image. May have been better if the one in blue wasn't bending over though. The architecture acheived with mud bricks and branches is incredible. cheers, Steve

Hello Gert,

J'aimerais vraiment revoir cet endroit un jour...
Superbe composition, dommage que le ciel soit si blanc, mais j'avais eu le même problème.
Bonne soirée
Marie
