The golden age of Timbuktu was hundreds of years ago and today life is as tough as in most other poor African cities: a struggle to find enough food, water and firewood for the day. But many ancient documents and other memories from the time when this desert city was one of the cultural centres of northern Africa are still kept in private homes, hidden from the outside world behind massive stone and mud walls and heavy wooden doors, like the house in this picture.
Today Timbuktu is listed as a world heritage by UNESCO and efforts are made by historians to retrieve and restore these hidden treasures.
This picture was scanned from a Kodachrome slide.

Fine composition but with a certain lack of colours. I tried a sepia version and made a WS, hope you like it.

I suppose this lady have been visiting that marvelous woodpile you posted some days ago. I like the cigarette in her face it give her definitely character.

very nice image of day-life. I like this scene cause it send us to soul of that place. Good pov with the door in a side and the woamn and her animal in the other. Sad light was so strong
