"I know you,
you want to exploit me,
you always come here from far away and point your camera in my face to document my misery,
you follow me like am an animal waiting for an expression that I would give,
you photograph me with enthusiasm as if I am a circus attraction and without permission,
shame on you,
I know you cant wait to show your friends my unimaginable situation, and feel proud that you actually experienced it for a few minutes,
you profit from a situation your forefathers created centuries ago in my country,
my silly brothers behind me smile at you only because they are curious and blind, but I know you,
You return to a so-called organized and civilized place and pray to God you were lucky enough not to be in my shoes,
You humor me with your superficial smile and try to act like you are my friend after your shutter clicks but thats only to ignore what you just did,
In your mind you think you are smarter, cleaner and more civilized but look at your self and tell me what would you do without your internet, your cell phone or your Monday night football?
you live and prosper in a tangible world full of greed and mystery of what tomorrow brings and thats why you wage wars to secure your bounties but I live free and in complete harmony with my land and my mind, I am the victor but only from the inside and the grass is greener on my land.
but I know you......and I let you do this because I am the tourist and your life is Divine Comedy to me"

The camera is not so aggressive...the camera steals no souls, nor does it cost the photographed a cent. Yet, I see posts like this all of the time. Without documentation, what do we have? I can think of many "just" wars that are believed to be "just" because the photographer was not there. Yet, we always seem to be condemned for our shutters and film. Get over it...a photographer tends to be the more reliable of people floating around...grab a politician and see how sympathetic he really is...grab a business man, grab an athlete. How many of these aformentioned individuals really care about people? I expect mostly none...yet for those that photograph people, I suspect the percentage of sympathetic souls is much higher...
I just don't want to hear this crap anymore...
My lens doesn't hurt.

Shalam Aleikhum. Your picture is great, your reflexion and message are really touching and I think you have reason, you tell the truth, even if I've visited this children and I've taken the same shots... Oh my God!
But... I wonder, I we don't look at them, someone will do?

It´s much more than posting a picture, what you are doing here. You´re telling a story. A story of a photographer reflecting on what he is doing. It´s unimportant if you´re right or not. The truth is in this dialogue. Very seldom on this website.
Best wishes

so deep and so thoughtful..

Hi Robert,
Beautiful B&W work here. You have composed the image perfectly. I love the serious face of the boy in the foreground with the grins of the people in the background. Great work! Thanks for sharing,
Jules
