Photographer's Note
in Djenne, a coranic school or medersa out in the street and little boys learning their sourats ( coranic versets) on wood boards and learning to write arabic at the same time. I focused on his hands and the board.
ps thru neatimage, no cropping

What an excellent shot; very interesting subject, very beautiful tones (and they really work with each other) and great bold framing. Very-very well seen and captured, eric. One of my favorites...

Excellent shot. I like the pale yellow, all the rest is almost b/w. I like the writing, the cropping, the angle, the hands. Very very good shot.

very nice shot Eric. I love the idea, but I like the realisation even better. Very, very good.

An excellent shot Eric. I love the original way you have composed it and the dusty colours are beautiful.

This picture is very strong, because we only see the hands. And we can learn a lot about someone, only by looking at this hands. Wonderful approach. Keep up the good work.

These hands are so gracefull and yet full of strenght. The cropping is great and the yellow adds a touch of color. Brilliant work.

The desaturated and contrasting colors are very striking. The focus on his hands has captured his body language nicely. Wonderfully detailed. Well done.

How did you come to the idea of framing on his hands and writings ? That was smart and this makes the picture unique. You were absolutely right because the graphism of arabic is a real subject by itself. The dustful hands also embodie the long hours spent by this boy to learn the writing; the finger on the right paper seems to show the dedication. A picture full of symbolism.
