[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Mopti in central Mali is an important trading place. Among the most important goods is dried fish from the Niger and Bani rivers that surround the city. A distinct smell covers most of the very busy port area along the Bani.
This picture was taken in early 1982 and is scanned from a Kodachrome slide.

Hi Gert,
the photo is quite impressive and informative. By informative I mean the packing style of fish, of course :-)
I must say they do a very good job: I couldn't imagine that several meters of rope could hold together more than half-a-cubic-meter of fish..
And the guy too adds a lot: his face is pretty expressive.

The daily life of fishermen in Africa... though it’s a very old image but the quality is good. The gesture of the man is also like a busy fisherman who is waiting for something. You have captured it nicely my friend.

Me gusta como la vida se acompasa al ritmo de los rios en Africa y esta foto lo refleja muy bien. Este joven con su carga de pescado seco, las barcas en la orilla y la cantidad de gente que se intuye al fondo.

Hello Gert,
another excellent portrait photo which is at the same time a photo showing ordinary daily life.
Well... fish is fish, but I'm more curious about the man himself :) His look is very eloquent. What may he be thinking about?..
I wonder why he is wearing a cap? perhaps even a woolen cap... He can't be cold, can he! It's Africa, not a northern country in winter!
Colour-wise, the photo looks very harmonious.
