Photographer’s Note
...and lots of them in Mali, these kids walk around selling Orange Phone Cards and Dunhill Cigarettes all day long, the boy in red takes care of his younger sisters!! its a great contrast from kids their age in the west, I mean I remember last xmas when people were waiting 3 days outside stores to buy 600$ PS3's and here these kids make less than 5-10$/month feeding their families!! so thats why I placed this in Ceremony category because of there inward joy just being alive and totally untouched by pure capitalism.

Robert,
Nice shot indeed. They are very like againts your Olympus. Interesting smiles there. The bike in the background is a nice add.

Excellent collective portrait, so spontaneous and natural. They seem so young and enthusiast, in spite of their poor clothes and difficult life. Impressive.

Hi Rafid,
His joy is contagious and fills the image, making it very effective. Technically is very achieved, with admirable clarity and a hard light well tamed.
Like you write between the lines in the note, in our supposedly wealthier societies, you end up valuing too much the materialism and associating it with happiness. They have a hard life, surely, but maybe they aren't much sadder than many of us. This doesn't mean that I am satisfied with the extreme poverty of so many African countries.
Regards, José.
