Photographer’s Note

I was in Bamako for over a month in 2005; just in time for the rainy season. Storms like this one would roll in almost daily. They started with all of the sand and dirt and dust whipping up in ferocious winds (you can see the dust near the horizon in this photo). Then black clouds came through and there were torrential downpours, lightning like I've never seen before, and frequent power outages! Pretty amazing....

Hi Rebecca,
this is a very unusual image for a sahelian contry. I found it very dramatic with its dark and red horizon. I tried to make a ws adding more contrast.
