Photographer’s Note
Bamako, the Niger river.
This thirsday, the 29th of january, we crossed the malian capitale at 17, when people left their works... a lot of two-wheeled vehicles in the streets !
Arriving to the King Fahd of Saudi Arabia bridge - who paid its construction (an other bridge cross the river, the Martyrs one) - the Niger river was here, while the sun began to go down.
The river is the 3th largest one of Africa, after the Nile and the Congo, with its 4184 km long. From Guinea to Nigearia coast.
It runs through Bamako in wild state. Its banks are used to dry the linen, to irrigate some vegetable gardens...
The river is also a reserve for the fishermen of the old Bozola area. We can see their dugouts on the banks or fishing in the midle of the river. The women sell the fish on the streets next to the bank.
Usualy calm, the river called by the Malians "Djoliba" ("river of blood") can be turbulent, especially at the rains season (August-October) and can flood the areas next to it.

Bonjour Yannis
Lumière argentée, douce et éclatante. Embarcation qui anime l'image et lui donne une échelle. Note instructive et vivante.

Hi Yannis,
interesting capture of the Niger river. I like small boat in the middle of river and the hills in the background.
Nice shot.

Hi Yannis,
you have some great pictures in your gallery, the impressions of Africa I like best. This one is tilt, but still a beauty. And I´m sure you also have one of the boat with 300mm.
Compliments, Christian
