Photographer’s Note
A small village in Malawi, kids pumping water from a borehole constructed by The Hunger Project NGO. I shot this while working on a story about this organization for NEED magazine, the story has just appeared in the second issue of the magazine, I haven't seen it yet and I don't know what pictures were used, I hope this one is there...

Hello Maciej,
a nicely composed and strongly impacting photo depicting this NGO achievement of installing those water pumps. Just came back from Burkina Faso and saw almost the same ones just about everywhere!
Cheers
Eric
PS: are you working as a full time photographer now? or still in university in Glasgow?

Just noticed you've moced up to a 5D, very nice, makes this quite a wide angle lens, effective use here, I like the way you've placed the children and pump.

Okay-ish.. I understand you wanted to focus on the water, which is logical, due to the theme of your photo work, but the background is kind of halfway between not so sharp and partly blurry.
You had to chose a solution. I think the way to go was sharp all the way, but as you don't allow to show your EXIF I can't say for sure.

Hello Maciej,
Great shot, very dynamic image well composed and nice colors.
However i think the background could be sharper and that would benefict the overall image.
Well Done, Regards,
Daniel

Beautiful, Maciej, very nicely framed and with an excellent exposure that leaves the kids visible without fill flash and doesn't burn out the sky either. I wonder how Luko's suggestion could be carried out, seems impossible to me given the focus on the water itself. It is a great shot and no wonder it has landed in that magazine, congratulations.

Gratulacje i pozdrowienia T.

Maciej,
Nicely framed i can see what Luko is saying but i like it fine just the way it is. There's enough detail in both boys faces for me. Hopefully it will make it into the magazine as its an excellent shot.
Cheers

A really well framed shot Maciej - I like the perspective and the play of light on the two young people in the background - the shot tells the story well .....and also it looks like one of the pumps developed by WEDEC in the town where I live - I've seen them in India and demonstrated here.....
best wishes Kev

Hi Maciek. I agree with Luko in wanting either more focus or less, although I don't think it is really super critical here. A smaller aperture would likely have blurred the running water even more, so I think perhaps going more wide open might have been the answer. What bothers me more though are the colors; they come across as both bland and inaccurate, shifted to cool. I just don't find them appealing. Again, I am not sure what you have changed in your PP over the past few months, or perhaps it is the camera, but they aren't as good as you used to show.

Great POV and composition, a really nice shot, I like it. But maybe a little dark and blurry on the RHS?

this is really lovely, i meant to comment on it earlier... very clean composition, perfectly "arranged" with a smart pov to emphasize the story.. a strong docu photo though i also wish that the kids would be sharp too..

Hi Maciej,
if i compared your photo to the known rarity of drinkable water supply in Africa this image would have an almost idyllic value...i like the way you composed this scene very much, especially the low point of view...cheers, arturo
