New country on my map :)

Daily life in this little and less visited country.
Malawian people are very friendly and peaceful.

It was funny to cross the border from Zambia to Malawi because I hadn't a Visa and swiss people need a Visa. When I ask for a Visa to the embassy in Brussels (Belgium) before departure, they told me that they could not issue Visa for the moment but they gave me an "Official introduction letter". Well, so I don't know why the customs officer said "Oh, oh, there is a problem" when he saw my beautiful "red-with-a-white-cross" passport. First, he told me that I had to return to Lusaka, the capital of Zambia, to buy a Visa in the Malawian embassy. I told him, kindly, that doing 20 hours of bus wasn't an option. :)
Fortunately, he was receptive :)
Then, after a 20-30 min of "brains storm", he said, ok, you can enter the country, but you have to buy a Visa at the immigration office in Lilongwe, the capital. He asks me, if I was happy with that solution and I answered with my best white teeth smile : " Yes, I am ". :)
He wrotes a letter for the immigration officer, then I went to the immigration office.

Taken from the bus during a transfer from Lilongwe, the political capital, to Blantyre, the economic capital of Malawi.

Mmmmmmm, what a long note for me....... I'm tired :)

Have a nice week-end

Salut PAscal,
Bon ouiiiik JY

Hi Pascal,
wonderful detail and good clear colour tones. A wonderful place to visit, one on my list duing life. Good composition of the shot, there is something facinating about how the tires are stacked.
Thanks for sharing
regards
Paul

Salut Pascal,
These daily life shots from Africa are fascinating, and Malawi is certainly off the beaten path even by TE standards. The combination of coke, tires and idle locals conveys a good sense of life there. I like the presence of the cyclist for the color he brings to the picture, as well as whatever little dynamism he adds to the lazy mood. Nice clandestine shot of the office in WS. Regards,
Hakan

Salut Pascal,
C'est typiquement une scène de vie africaine. Finalement, c'est eux les champions du recyclage. Rien n'est perdu.
Amitiés
Marc

Such a funny and smooth story that you are telling us. At least , you , guys from Switzerland and these people from Malawi, you do like long and slow discussions, but however very efficient. The picture is nice. Geraldine

Hi Pascal...hoping that this GIANT note will not give you medical problems...is a wonderufl note...i thnk typicall of Africa and not only. I had similar troubles in Nicaragua and El Salvador.
good view of this poor Country.
thanks, ciao

great story, well framed, rgds

Wonderful image of daily life in the area, accompanied by informative and amusing notes. All the elements are there - the group of men chatting; the man on the bike heading out of shot; the (very worn) tyres ready for sale; and then after work what better than a cold drink.
Everywhere you look in the photo there is something new to see. In a landscape shot it could be a problem not having somewhere for the eye to rest, but this isn't a landscape and nor is it a problem.

Hello Pascal,

What a story ...typical Africa AND Belgium !!!Sometimes they are the same ! ;DDD BUt luckily you got in. I don't understand "visa" sometimes ... they can make it so difficult. I got mine in Brussels for India next week and the trip to get it is worse than to get to India :)))
Nice daily life shot, the easy-going, and the everywhere-cola ..
greetings from a burocratic belgium ;D
inn

P: superb slice of the mundane, judiciously framed. Far better job here that what an average eye would have pulled off. regards, c
