Photographer’s Note
A view across Antananarivo ('Tana') - Madagascar's chaotic but likeable capital city, situated in the highlands in the centre of the island. The picture is taken from near the Rova (Queen's Palace) and the Palais du Prime Ministre.
In the centre of the picture is Lac Anosy, an artifical lake. The angel in the centre was built to commerate Madagascar's part in the First World War.
In the foreground is the stadium, where a riot broke out the day I went down to the lake. The football fans had paid for their tickets, only to have the match cancelled, so they proceeded to break chairs and burn cars.
Also note the rice fields in the distance, which surround the city and are ubiquitous in the highlands.

Hello, Matt.
How come 325 people have looked at this picture and yet it has received not a single comment/critique so far? Even my pathetic picture received some attention.
This is a very nice view across the city with a fine view of Lac Anosy and the rice fields beyond, with the hills in the distance. A fabulous sky too. Perfectly exposed and crystal-clear. And an excellent interesting note.
Isn't it a pity that this beautiful city appears to be decaying so quickly - all those buildings shoddily repaired with corrugated iron and streets full of pot-holes that you could lose a wheel down!
Best Wishes,
John.
