I had the opportunity to organize a regata with the people of the Vezo village of Salary.
A part the pleasure of sailing freely on this enchanted sea it was the chance to call some musicians from the Mikea forest that entertained all the village while waiting on the beach the arrival of the lakanas.
A celebration for all the village!
A special thanks to Francesco and Claire that gave me this chance.
The Vezo is the term the semi-nomadic coastal people of southern Madagascar use to refer to people that have become accustomed to live from sea fishing. They currently populate most of the littoral zone along Madagascar’s west coast between Toliara and Mahajunga. They do not identify with an ethnic group but instead with their way of life. Because of their semi-nomadic marine migrations their population is difficult to determine and has been estimated by counting the dugout canoes called pirogues (lakanas in Malagasy language) around Madagascar.
"Vezo" literally means, the people who fish, but also has been know to mean 'to struggle with the sea'.

A joyful picture with a dynamical figurehead!
The colors are beautiful and you captured the action very well. The sharpness is remarkable. But, above all, I love the mood of carefreeness that comes out from it! Congratulations,

buon fine settimana,
