Photographer’s Note
This is the entrance to a royal tomb at Antsahandinta - one of the twelve sacred hills of Imerina (the area around the capital, birthplace of the Malagasy nation).
The cut stone tombs became fashionable in the second half of the 19th century under the architectural influence of Jean Laborde, a Frenchman who left his mark on highland architecture and was a counselor to Malagasy monarchy before colonisation.
