Photographer's Note
A mother and her baby. Just a little hue and saturation modification.
The girl is wearing a typical cloth from the coast part of Madagascar: a colorfull Lambahoana. She's also having a yellow mask made with a kind of clay. It is very popular there for women who want to take care of their skin. It's funny the baby completly hidded by his clothes.

The darn shadows take what would have been a breathtaking photograph of a culture I've never seen, and make it a frustrating exercise in viewing!
I'm not sure if it could be enhanced by a little post processing to try to bring out some of the details of the woman. I'm sure some of the wizards here could do it!
Again - well spotted. I wish there was a bit of background about her / where she lives, why she has yellow on her face, etc.

As Rob has mentioned, the shadows do not help here, but this is salvagable to be certain. I did a workshop and feel it looks quite a lot better. The shot itself is appealing, you have an interesting subject, and although she is aware of the camera and posing slightly, it still gives us a glimpse into a new world(at least for me). The colors here are good as well. I think with careful post processing of the original file, you would actually have quite a winner here.
