[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I'm going to post a few photos of Liberia showing the effects of the civil war. I returned to Liberia in 2004 during a period of peace. The civil war affected every part of the country. My photos show the destructive effects on buildings and infrastructure. Of course the effects on the Liberian people are just as great.

In 1975 when I lived in Tapeta this area was the center of town and had triving businesses in all the buildings shown. I returned in 1997 after the first period of fighting and the buildings were in good shape but vacant. In 2004 the buildings were destroyed. People have vacated much of this part of the country because there are few schools and health facilities. Most towns in Nimba County have this type of damage.

Hello Michael,

You have captured and conveyed the sentiments posted in your note very effectively through this photo. The ruins of the buildings are really jarring in front of the nice colored road and the nice blue sky. Nice composition.

Regards,
-Arindam

This log in front makes good perspective. Nice compo and thanks for the story. It's our life. I like red ground also.

I, too, appreciate these vivid photos of Liberia, with the red earth and deep green grass. Despite the horrible background of destruction, these people still seem to carry themselves with grace. As if the buildings were not utterly ordinary enough already, before the war! Hard to believe this was the centre of a thriving town.
Fair play to you, Michael.
Regards, Andrew
