Photographer’s Note

This is the third photo of Lake Bogoria.

Several geisers and hot sulfur springs circle this soda lake, seen in the background. I like the rough surface of the rock. It reminds me parts of a skeleton.

Flamingos gather here by the thousands, atracting hunter baboons, that raid the flamingos, killing and eating them, and marabus and other necrophagus birds, that finish the baboons left overs. It is amazing to witness the whole feeding chain at work. Nowhere else you can experience the violence of preying and survival as you do in Africa.
The colours of this lake and its surroundings are unreal and one is constantly reminded of the origin of life and man.

Unlike other parks in Kenya, Bogoria is of hard acess and seldom visited by tour groups, so you can stay there completely alone. There are no lodging facilities though, and you have to camp. We did that and it was an amazing experience.
