Photographer’s Note
Another beautiful and amazing scene by Lake Nakuru.
The White Rhinoceros or Square-lipped rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum) is one of the five species of rhinoceros that still exist and is one of the few megafauna species left. Behind the elephants, it is probably the most massive remaining land animal in the world, along with the Indian Rhinoceros and the Hippopotamus, which are of comparable size. It is well known for its wide mouth used for grazing and for being the most social of all rhino species. The White Rhino is the most common of all rhinos and consists of two subspecies, with the northern subspecies being rarer than the southern. The northern subspecies may have as few as 13 remaining world wide.
White has nothing to do with the color. It comes from mishearing the Dutch word "wijd" meaning wide (refering to the lips) and prononced "white".
the other one was called black, because one was already called white. They're both grey, the black one being slightly darker.
I was amazing to have learned that.

very interesting. Sharp details, and nice colors. I like a lot the line of pink flamingoes in the background.
A bright line which divides the picture.

Bonjour Wayne
Un très beau cliché de ces animaux bien nets qui se détachent sur un flou artistique. Celà me rappelle d'excellents souvenirs - j'y étais en août dernier.
Merci pour le partage et bon dimanche.

Hello WayNE,
really is nice to see these huge animals from this close distance. The light and the colours are perfect as the calmness of the rhinoceros. The blur background brink out the details of the main theme.Informative your note too.
Have a nice day,Danos

Hi Wayne,
Wow, what huge animals - and so identical except for the right one being the larger of the two. Very well seen and perfectly composed. Great shot and TFS. Gerald

Hello Lim,
I seriously hope these terrific animals will be able to live with full protection for a long time; it would be an unspeakable loss if these creatures would become extinct, and the world would be substantially poorer. It is very pleasing to see them in the wild, as they have existed for thousands of years. Your photo is magnificent, it really is inspiring.

Hello WayNe,
Very beautiful and sharp picture of the two rhinoceros. But the blur (but colourful) background composed of the sky, the trees, the water and specially the long line of flamingos is an added value on this picture.
Very interesting to know where the names 'white' and 'black rhinoceros' come from. I speak Dutch but did never think at that.

Hey,
Looks like classic Nakuru to me :)
Well done - getting so close (or zooming so accurately) to these rhinos, what amazing beasts.
Cheers

Fantastic shot of the rhinos. I love how they are almost identical in their posture. The lake with its flamingos makes a wonderful background. Good work

Olá Way, interesting information about the "white". This is also a wonderful capture. The double situation make a curious and amazing image. The left one is smaller, problably the female (?), otherwise I could almost think of a clone. The blurred background is also very attractive. Excellent shot and composition.

Hi Way, the only shots that I have of Rhinos are from a zoo, and they sure don't look anything as happy as these guys. This pose is great with both of them with their heads down feeding. The flamingos and water in the background make an amazing backdrop.
Thanks, John

Tobias is right, this image of the Rhino deserved much more attention. It a very rare on get to see a rhino, needless to say two together in one frame, going with their life in such a wonderful open landscape. Per half, the thumbnail doesn't standout enought to grabe people's attention. Great info, especially why they are call white, when they don't look it.

Hello Way!
Again a really beautiful composition with animals. I like the perfect placed Rhinoceroses very much, they match very well to the background. The depth here is great and you put the focus on the Rhonoceroses very well. Also the frame, nice work!
The only thing I can mention is, that the shadow from the right Rhinoceros hits the other one, but actually nothing to worry about.
Well done, Way!

Hello Way -
Lake Nakuru! I think I recognize these two guys :) Early morning shot, excellent exposure and composition. I captured mine up near the road in the fever trees with the sun just coming over the rim of the valley. Oh, you bring back such memories. Well done!
Thank you for sharing.
