Wasini Island, a photo from Coast, East

Photographer's Note

Wasini Island lies just off the southernmost point of Kenya in the Kisite Mpunguti Marine Reserve.
Essentially unspoiled (there are no roads or cars on the island) and entirely different in terms of culture and landscape from the mainland, this peaceful island invites exploration. It features a picturesquely sculptured rocky coastline, low rag-coral forest cover, numerous venerable baobab tees and two small Muslim villages, the most frequently visited being Wasini Village, whose friendly and welcoming villagers inhabit a settlement believed to have been founded by Chinese and Arab traders some four- hundred-years ago; and which still features the ruins of those civilizations.

Hello Rosemary,

Strong composition and brilliant use of existing light there. The interplay of light and shades adds much to the charcter of the scene. I also liked the narrow path that leads the eye to the sea, gives a nice depth sense. Colors produced are very natural and balanced, sharpness is flawless. I liked it a lot. Thanks for sharing. Hi Rosemary

The northern part of the Kenyan coast around Lamu is now rated as extremely unsafe and most coutries discourage their nationals from going there... hoefully you did not face any trouble in the south!
Colourful and bright view with the little path leading the eye down to the sea.
Cool view with nice trees too!

You describe the scene beautifully.
It is a real invitation to follow the shadow-dappled path, between the vegetation, past the baobab? trees and discover the focal thatched hut. All the features are well positioned, it is sharp and nicely saturated.

Love the graphism & repetition of the boabab trees with the fg path adding nice lead in lines and natural perspective. The reddish yellow colour also contrasts superbly against that wonderful blue sky. Good sharpness & punchy light contrasts. Have a great Sunday!

hi rosemary,
this is looking very much like a paradise island. the view along the little path is excellent leading towards the water. the trees and vegetation frame the scene very nicely. the sky is a wonderfulblue colour. and although the sea is only just visible, it is the other elements all working so well together that let us know that the beach will be equally impressive.

Hello Rosemary,

Thank you for an interesting note here and also for a very useful link to a Google map - in fact, if you click on the multicoloured "Google" logo on your map, you can see a full-size Google map and then, if you use the little yellow man, you will not see any "street level" roads but you will see lots of little blue dots, each of which represents a photograph from this island. It is very interesting to compare those photographs with yours too.

But this is a finely composed shot, the little sandy path leading us directly to the roofed structure by the sea surrounded by weird baobab trees. Lovely vibrant colours, perfect exposure and stunning detail and sharpness.

These trees look out of the world, from another planet.
Wish I coud see them in person one day.
Very nice colors and color contrast. Orange and Blue have always been my favourits.

J'aime beaucoup la force de l'orangé du sentier.
Il permet aussi au ciel de bien s'exprimer avec ses bleus intenses.
