Photographer's Note
My 400th post is one of several I took on Galu Beach in Kenya. I call it Self Indulgence because it relates to feelings I have when I am in a beautiful location doing something I love. Losing myself in the landscape or seascape behind a lens can be totally relaxing. The cares of daily life are banished, my time is completely my own and, for me photographically speaking, this is as good as it gets.

This is a beautiful post for your 400th. Rosemary. I can almost feel the texture of the wood, warm where the sun touches and denser where still wet.Lovely shot.

Hello Rosemary,oh how I echo your sentiments,if only we were allowed more time...
I like this shot mostly because of the tranquility of the scene, you`ve managed to turn a simple item into a work of art,the shapes and texture of the fallen tree are lovely and I do enjoy the broken sky line,a very suitable 400th.
Kind regards Les.

Ciao Rosemary
Ciao e buona serata
Romano

Hi Rosemary,
Happy 400th post!!
Amd a beauty to share too, this is a fine image.
I dont know if perhaps I am over analyzing it, but I can see a number of shapes and figures in this. The main part of the structure looks to my eyes like perhaps a large lizard, lying on his back playing dead, while the part to the left looks like the head of a deer.
Is it normal for people to see shapes like this here? I'm thining similar to how some people see shapes in the clouds. Maybe its just me :)
Great shot, congratulations.
All the best
Noel

Hello Rosemary,
First of all, Congratulations on your 400th post!
But most of all, I can really love your note and can fully empathise with those wonderful feelings which one can have when out and about (usually alone) with a camera: the times when you feel at one and at peace with beautiful surroundings and just want to record those lovely sensations.
I can just imagine how you felt when you took this one: I bet you pottered around here for some time just soaking up the ambience and moving to and fro to try to find the best angle and the best lighting on this wonderfully interesting subject.
Whatever you did, it has certainly paid off handsomely and you have produced a lovely photograph. The light is sublime, the colours vibrant but natural and the composition restful and pleasing. Technically perfect too with exquisite details and sharpness.
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello Rosemary,
First of all, congratulations for your 700th post, no better way to celebrate this fantastic gallery of yours. What a beautiful photo to look at ! The twisted tree limb in the foreground is a natural work of art and gives great near interest to balance this simple natural scenery. Obviously dead tree in real life, but alive and kicking in your image. You can fell the suffering of it through its crooked shape. You nailed the horizontal line of the horizon here perfectly straight. Good lighting and DOF with nice details. Thanks for sharing this beauty.
Kind regards,
Christian

Hello Rosemary,
congratulations on your 400 lovely and fascinating pictures on TE, for your constant research and observation and for the skill with which you are able to realise your visions. This location and subject have become iconic. It's great to see how they keep their fascination through your different approaches and uses of format and lighting. An extraordinary natural sculpture in a lovely pastel ambiance affected by a hardly warm but special light. Depth and textures are superb. Congratulations again and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,
Ourania

Hello Ann,
I too recently posted my 400th photo at this highly addictive site. One speaks of "drift wood," but this has to a "drift tree." The salty air warm air must be lovely walking on a beach like this so close to to the Equator.

Congratulations, Rosemary.
400 posts shows your continued interest and dedication.
I must admit, I have enjoyed sharing your shots, which show me so much of a land that would, otherwise, be quite unknown to me.
Seascapes and flotsam do have a magical quality. I can understand the idea that you are indulging yourself as you lose all sense of time, looking at this wood from every angle, changing your interpretation of its shape. I'd do just the same! (We go on walks and who is at the back, bending down, standing on tiptoe, looking at scenes from different viewpoints? Yes, you've guessed!)
I like this shot very much. I can see a deer skeleton, rising from the sand. The milky water (good detail) gives it a very forlorn apperance. Its legs, proud of the horizon, seem to be waving for help. (Gosh, I am a romantic!)
Have a great w/e,
Bev :-)

Hi rosemary and congratulations for this milestone!
These natural wooden sculpture are indeed interesting photographic subjects and your own version shows us why.
I know it doesn't exactly correspond to the official description, but for me, it is like a macro landscape, with your lens paying attention to an element of nature and presenting it as if it was a larger outlook.
Once again, bravo for your achievement!

Hello Rosemary,
Well done on the 400 - I hope to see another 400 at least! An interesting title that your note explains well. The weathered wood is lovely against the seascape. Gentle colours in the FG are lovely against the strip of gorgeous blue/green near the horizon. Very much a 'Rosemary' picture and very enjoyable as usual.
Best wishes, Ann

Dear Rosemary
Congratulations on your 400th photo, an wonderful achievement on TE. And of course knowing you and seeing your photography develop so exponentially. I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments, it's certainly something we all aspire to, that feeling of happiness and freedom that the landscape (or as here the seascape) provides. Needless to say, the photo is beautiful and forms an important part of the series on this unique beach. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Rosemary
I think that is name of the art stuff! The composition is outstanding & the focus is good & crisp, so you can really see all the shapes and textures of the natural artwork. Your hands picking up some marvellous detail there and it contrasts naturally with the blue sky. A very well spotted and well shot piece.
Congrats on your 400th !
Kind regards

Hi Rosemary
this is the type of scene that we'd usually see from Lisa, it has her style stamped all over it :)
but its you :)
what actually caught my attention right away was the perfect 1/3 compo horizon line...love that, great attention to detail to make it as pleasing to the natural eye as possible.
lovely light and a very unique looking twisting subject
cheers
