This was my first time to eat the "meat" around the imfamous cocoa beans. The villagers at the cocoa farm were curious to see what I would think of eating part of this plant. (This became a fun game for both myself and the villagers, as they would hand the laughing American, me, a new food and watch me try to figure out how to correctly eat it.)
I had dificultly trying to figure out how to "eat" something with beans inside it, until someone showed me that one just sucks on the bean until the meat dissolves in your mouth, then you spit the bean out. It tastes wonderful and sweet, almost like a vanilla frosting.
In this photo, you can see the cocoa plant recently sliced open. Hands are reaching for the "meat" covered beans to eat. |
