This little girl looked so adorable just standing there, I had to take her picture. She was looking directly at me, but the instant that I took the photo she glanced up. When I lowered my camera, she was looking at me again. I love that I caught her in this moment, because you can see her surroundings (the orphanage) are not the most promising, but she's looking up to the sky as if pondering what else might be out there for her. It's like a glimmer of hope amidst a daunting reality. Whatever she's looking for, I hope she finds it someday.

I had to play around with the sharpness of this one a little, as it was slightly out of focus, and still is a bit. But I think the message it gives is quite clear - it's one of my favorite photos from this trip. Some of you might recognize the girl from my last photo.

A beautiful photo of a beautiful little girl. I don't mind the slight lack of focus; maybe it detracts from the surroundings. I like the way she is looking up; she has hope for the future maybe.
Belated welcome to TE.

Great capture of her lifetime moment. Good tones as well. It looks like the shot was taken 50 years ago or so, but it looks very natural and I like it.

I like the composition and point of view.Good B&W choice.Good contrasts, light and sharpness.I like the expression of the girl.Good job!

Hi Leanne,
Good capture, I like the facial expression of the little girl. I had already a dress like this. Good job.

That's a very nice picture, full of poetry. This girl is so cute and her attitude very touching. The black and white seems really adapted here, it adds even more nostalgy.
Congratulations!

Hello Leanne,
I really like the color tons of this portrait, it looks like a old picture. I found the little girl expression so natural and the way she stands close to the wall, it gives a lot of charm to your compo.
Luan

PS : thanks for your kind words on my picture.

Hello Leane
Just love this composition of hope and peace.
You are right about the timing. The fact that she looks up is the photo.
Good work
Charles

A very nice compo tightly framed and good suggestive staring of the girl, well seen, the OOF can express some dream.

Leanne
Thanks for the comments. I choose this picture in your portfolio, because she is strong.
The bad quality is not a problem for me, may be it's the contrary; perfection can kill the feeling, and here there is so much feeling!
Joel

Excellent portrait Leanne! The girls expression and pose are superbly captured by you.

I tried a workshop to sharpen and smooth noise, hope you like it.

oh god, how can this not have anymore flipping points!? After being with similar kids in the same city all last year, may i say that this is a fantastic shot all around. Absolutly love this photo!

keep it up,

-Adam

hello Leanne,
Excellent and nice picture, good moment captured here. The image looks like a ´60 journal photo or Life magazine, and I love the effect. Really a beautiful job.

just beautiful. the tone addition is great too. she seems to have a great thought on her mind as her expression gives her thoughts away.

my only thoughts are the "tangent" you have created with the girl's head just barely touching the edge. that can be destracting, and unfortunately her foot is also cut off.

but her lovely expression and the mood of this shot is really great.

it's a very nice and interesting phot. the note is good too!great job!

an amazing comp.
i love how you portrayed this b/w photo with an "old-time feel...absolutely splendid.
bc of it, i don't feel like this is a photo of africa...more like a photo from the sixties from the south (US).
i wished it was a bit more sharp in image.
otherwise, you framed this child well.
thx for posting.

Lovely. Although I wouldn't have cropped the top of the photograph so close to her head, it seems to throw it off balance ever so slightly. That may just be an aesthetic preference on my part-however, I'd be interested to see it done that way, to compare the two.
Nice work!
