Fish Market at Tanji, Gambia. Women are collecting the fish and they are paid with some fish for bringing it on land. In the WS you could see the market where the fish is selled. (If you would like to see - three days ago I have posted the smoking house at Tanji)

Additional remark:
Some comments would like to see the picture without the man in the foreground. I had done another WS (very quick work only to get an idea)

Second additional remark:
as proposed I had changed the pic in th WS using the golden ratio

The Gambia, officially the Republic of The Gambia, commonly known as Gambia, is a country in Western Africa. It is the smallest country on the African continental mainland and is bordered to the north, east, and south by Senegal, and has a small coast on the Atlantic Ocean in the west. The River Gambia flows through the centre of the country and empties into the Atlantic Ocean. On 18 February 1965, The Gambia became independent from the British Empire. Banjul is its capital.

Hi Achim,
lively scene, full of action and a good atmosphere because of the counterlight.
Did you try to croop out the blurred person in the foreground. I would have.
Regards, Gerrit

Hallo Achim,
Lieben Gruss, Ulf

Hi Achim

A superb daily life shot of the fishermen on the beach. There is a slight cw tilt of the horizon but that's nitpicking. Excellent sharpness & graphism. The oof fg subject adds motion blur & depth. Tfs!

Hi Dear Achim,

Great Job!
The sun reflexs on water, gathered people around boat and coulds on sky are all in a Perfect Composition.
I wish you could took another shot without the passing person in front.

Congratulations,

Javad.

Hello Achim

There are not many pics from Gambia in TrekEarth : you should first be thanked for posting one. On top of that this one might be the best of the crop, both documentary and aesthetically wise.
I think that's the best you could make out of harsh side light (or probably warm it up a bit?).

Composition is good, please do not even think of removing the foreground silhouette, he's critical in this scene, adding depth and life, with his funnyly caught tho appropriate arm move...

Hi, Achim. A backlight picture where the exposure is fairly well under control. I like to see the bustle around the boat and the people going to and fro. I think I would also have cropped the person in the foreground, but you've already explained your choice, so I suppose you've chosen the better solution.

Thi is very good indeed, Achim - that shadowy, ghostly asserby in the foreground lits this shot higher and gives meaning and scale to the sharp and active background. Almost monochfromatic too, in blue.
Well done!
Francis

Hello Achim,
Nice composition with lovely shades of grey and appealing highlights in the water. I am not too sure about the person in the foreground but I think, on balance, I would probably have cloned them out.

Hi Achim,
A good daily life action shot. I like the blurred man in the foreground, he adds to the scene. There is alot of great details to look at.
Regards
Wanda

Hello Achim,

I looked at bothe the original and the version with the man in the foreground removed. I believe I prefer the latter. Moreover, although the very shallow water with ripples is interesting I would crop it. Most likely, I would make it 800x494 pixels, which would give it the "golden ratio" of 1:1.618. Trained in mathematics/physics and in art, I wrote a book about Leonardo, 'Math and the Mona Lisa,' about the intersection of mathematics and art. Leonardo the finest artis/scientist combination ever serves as a foil for integrating these seemingly disparate fields. The book will never be able to compete with Dan Brown's 'Da Vinci Code,' but it is the second most successful book about Leonardo. After less than three years since its publication it has seen eleven printings in English, and translated to 10 foreign languages. Accordingly, my interest in shapes and patterns. Yor photo would be more effective, I believe, if you would take your ws version and do a second one, cropping the bottom, making the image itself (not counting the frame) 800x494 pixels.

Finally, it is a fabulous shot. I love the action, the exotic setting of an alien (to my own) culture.

Warm regards,

Bulent

Hallo Achim,
A compound well image and with a great dynamism, in that you catch this daily scene of the fishermen and his boats coming to the beach.
One sees the great activity of all these people, unloading the fish to take it to the market.
I also think that the blurred man in foreground distracts the attention and does not contribute anything to the set, for which I like your work of PP in the WS.
In spite of this small detail, the photo is good.
Regards,
Josep

Hello Achim,
very well captured shot in back lighting, with good light control and sharpness. I definitely prefer the versions in the WS, because of the distracting person in the fg. Well done and tfs!

Hi Achim
Interesting crowdy scene. Great light and composition, with (as some friends said) an exception of this man in the foreground ;).

Hi Achim,
amazing and interesting scene, good captured. Good reportage. You had difficulty light. I like this job. Interesting WS also.
Gr., Aleksander

Jacques

Hi Achim,

Very nice picture. The motion of the poeple and the light were composed well. Nice job! TFS
Kind regards

Hello Achim,
I'm Ok with the others for the person in the foreground, but it's a good view of daily life in Africa.
Regards
Christian

Image full of life and dynamism, well composed and with a great backlight, compliments Achim, a very good and interesting image.
