Photographer's Note

Tanji is a village on the Atlantic coast. The people belonging to the Wolof tribe live from fishing. The fishermen are welcomed by a thousand women who carry the fish in colored plastic containers at shore, clean the fish and sell the fish. A great experience to join. It is a miracle that the boats do not sink. It is for sure hard work for women and men. Even Young children are involved. Perhaps the biggest threat for the people here are the big fishing tawlers from industrialized countries who are fishing the sea empty “stealing” the fish from the local people leaving them with less jobs, income and food.
