Somewhere over the rainbow Photo

Photographer’s Note

The town of Turmi is known for its monday market which gathers tribepeople from all over the region particularly the Hammer. It has become quite touristy as a market, however at the end of the day when the tourists are gone, the real market begins with people buying and selling hay and other farming necesities.

This is the beginning of the unseasonal rains which led to flooding a few days after we left. In order to leave town the car has to cross a river and we were concerned about not being able to cross it due to the rain, and of being stuck in turmi for many days. I will post a photo of that river crossing soon.

I think this one is really one to see in a large print format - we just don't get anywhere the full quality of this image at this size - great light and the way in which the rainbow frames the light and the activity of the gathering market is wonderful - a really fine image Daniel.

Très joli cadrage de cette vie quotidienne au centre.

excellent - i agree with KEV (!!!), to fully appreciate this image it should be done in large format print, the ammount of details (small figures of people) would pop up then,
surprising how well the whole scene was framed by that rainbow;

Hi Daniel,

well ofcourse the rainbow is killer here. But Im so attracted to this superb, prefect light and the contrasts and colors it prioduces. Kev is 100% right . Print this up at A3 or bigger and the effect would be spectacular!

Hi Daniel,
Again you did great with the very contrasty lights of Africa.
I like the colours in the bottom and the dark sky with a beautiful rainbow.
The only regret I have is that I'd like to see more contrast and details in this storm sky.

Superbe image avec l'arc en ciel parfait et le rayon du soleil qui éclaire la terre et tous ces gens. La netteté est excellente. Cela aurait été sympa avec le type en vélo isolé à droite pour remplir ce coin.

Belle photo avec ces tons bruns sur le bas, ces gros nuages menacants sur le haut et puis cet arc-en-ciel qui s'étend sur toute la scène.
Une belle ambiance pluvieuse accompagnée d'une jolie lumière.

Cette image est magnifique. Tu as capté une scène de la vie quotidienne en Ethiopie, c'est plutot rare. En plus tu as ajouté ce grand arc en ciel.

Hi Daniel, i like a lot this shot!The lights and the tones are simply fantastic, very african tones i think.A beautiful daily life scene with incredibles colours+the rainbow!but also without the rainbow the shot works perfectly!

Superbe lumiere et un exelent arc en ciel. C'est interessant de voir toutes ces personnes dans la rue et l'importance de la collectivité en afrique peut être un peu étoufante parfois. J'aime beaucoup. L'afrique doit être magnifique a visiter.
En ce qui concerne mes commentaires, je cherche juste a avoir une vision critique des choses dans un pays ou 10% de la population possède 70% des richesses et ou le modèle de développement occidental est une arme a double tranchant. Je ne suis pas contre la modernisation mais je questionne l'idée que les gens ont du développement et de la modernité. Je suis peut être un peu afecté par le type de travail que je fais dans des communautés qui n'ont pas beaucoup d'alternatives et ce qui est rageant, c'est que des solutions un peu plus intelligentes pourraient changer bien des choses, malheureusement, les groupes de pouvoir, avant poliques et caciquiles avel le PRI, maintenant par le grand capital... ne permettent pas certains processus "intelligents" et plus de volontée politique. Nos points de vue sont compatibles...

Hi Daniel, No doubt the rainbow is great, but it's the divine light that steels the show here. It's so perfect, really. I like how it enlightens an 'ordinary' daily life scene and takes this whole shot to a certain height. Really wonderful! Sabine

The rainbow looks like it's protecting the village by creating a canopy. Nice contrast, colors, pov, and dof.
