Photographer’s Note

The atmosphere inside the new St. Mary of Zion
(Tsion Maryam) built under Hailé Selassiè
in the sixties is something like "cold" due
of the architectual character (see workshop), but the religious fervour of the people inside
gave it back a certain mood.
In the image you can see a young pilgrim.

Une très très belle utilisation de ce sol rouge comme arrière-fond pour ce portrait, avec un angle de vue choisi qui fait qu'on a l'impression de plonger dans ses grands yeux. C'est simple, et vraiment magnifique!

Very rare point of view used on a child picture ;-)
Are you that tall? :-D or the child it`s too small?...just kidding. :-)

Look at the light from his/her eyes...Beautiful.
It`s interesting and different in the same time from the regular child photographs I have seen.The look shown it`s just great.

tres etrange...mmeme impressionnante...on dirait que la tete a ete collée sur ce fond rouge...le pied m'interpelle aussi...
en tout cas la mine espiegle de ce pelerin donne un air sympa aidée par les couleurs gaies.

Veramente geniale questa immagine. Un ritratto fuori da ogni canone, eppure bellissimo. Lo sfondo rosso unifrome sembra scelto in studio.

L'effet obtenu par cette vue en plongée est fantastique. Si on ajoute les couleurs extraordinaires et la qualité technique exceptionnelle, on arrive à cette superbe et originale photo. Bravo!

Hello Luca,

A very non usual point of view for a portrait. However, its originality attracts the look and allows to get a full uniform pattern in background and to focus only on the face and those big eye.
Of course, the face is a little deformed by the use of a wide angle so close but the picture is interesting.

This is a rare gem what with its unorthodox cadrage and the red in the bg, making the portrait even more striking. The kid's eyes are so big, sharp and eyecatching with glittering pupils, which I like most about this shot. Congrats.

Superbe portrait. Such pov don't always work but in this case it's brilliant. The boys' eyes are so striking and I like the way his foot is sticking out. The colours are really beautiful and create such a flattering background.

I have seen many pov's in my life, but this one is very special, or better said, very interesting. It looks very surreal with her head standing out against the rest of her body. And that red, man that is really the perfect colour to make it strong and powerful in colour and composition. A perfect shot, very artistic and creative...very good work.

That is for sure a very young pilgrim. You're joking about the pilgrim part, or this kid really is a pilgrim? Or perhaps the son of one ;-).
But an interesting point of view. Are you thát tall or are you standing on something. Well, or the pilgrim is thát small. That's also possible...

the unusual point of view and composition work really well to create a powerful photo. the exaggerated size of the head is fascinating, and focuses attention on those big eyes that seem to have X-ray capability :) the red background is an added bonus, most impressive photo, my compliments.
