Silhouetted in the doorway of their modest home, 11 year old Biniam Yohanes waits for his mother to serve coffee. The traditional Eritrean coffee ceremony is always prepared by the women and served with popcorn. The burning incense, which spirals towards the roof, is intended to complete the experience.

A great composed capture,Lannon.Perfect dof and exposure.What really makes this photograph for me is the silhouette of the mother on the left and the colores of her face and cloths.Also the waiting boy on the doorstep and the smoke in the backlight is great.For me a favourite!

very good photo

Vermeer goes to Africa. Really nice. So still and pristine and that cloud of smoke is dreamy. If I were you I would try to darken the right side a bit, verrrry subtly, maybe add a hint more saturation?

I agree with all of the above. It is a wonderful picture, one which has the atmosphere of a Leica! The eye is continually drawn back to the left, and you can almost smell the occasion. The best picture I've yet seen on Trekearth - and lots of useful and esoteric information, as well.
