Nubian exchange & dog Photo

Photographer’s Note

Banana Island is a lush peninsula 4km upriver and a favoured destination in Luxor, for a lazy afternoon in a felucca. Although a bit touristic, it has a pleasant tropical atmosphere and it's enjoyable to wander through the cool, shady groves of mature banana trees, with their vaulting fronds and pendant flowers. After exploring some trails, tourists are invited to have a drink and eat a bunch of the small and delicious bananas they have here. While seated on my bench and bettween eaten bananas I took the chance to capture some of the nubian daily life happening near by.

é uma imagem cheia de detalhes e elementos que representam bem essa cena do cotidiano em Luxor. A composição está primorosa. Gosto de ver o cachorro, a negociação e as sombras promovidas pela luz dourada e de ângulo baixo. Muito bonita fotografia. Parabéns!

If not for that gracious (and yet forbidden by TOS :-))) beast in there - the photo would be yet another one 'no beggining -no end' fotka from an exotic place...

Interesting daily life scene showing the men in their traditional clothes. The dog in the scene is an interesting addition, and for some reason unexpected. I think the shadows are a strong part of the image so I think it would have been better if you could have included the full shadows of the men, just by framing more to your right. I also like the complementary image in the WS of the view behind you. It gives this image context. Well done

mais um belo flagrante do cotidiano simples desta gente. Gostei muito da fachada toda salpicada de tiros (sei que não são, haha)a porta azul é muito bem colocada e os rapazes também, a tristeza do cão é notória. Talvez uma compo um pouquinho mais panorâmica ficaria ainda melhor do que já é

nice the daily snapshot between the two young Nubian men.I like the placement of the dog in the scene as the shapes of the shadows that exists on the ground and the facade of the house.excellent presentation of the place.The sharpness and generally details of the photo are great one.

Hi Ricardo,

For a moment I thought that I read “Nubians exchanging dogs”, but I must have mixed the text with an item in the paper about the Chinese that stopped exchanging and eating dogs during the Olympics for they are afraid to shock the Western world.
I like the effective way you present us here daily life in Egypt.

Another excellent image of the daily life in Egypt. The dog is fefinitely awared of your existence, versus the people didn't seem to notice you and going on with their ativity. I like this kind of candid photo of people doing whatever they are doing without noticing the camera around. Techincall all is great as always. Nice daily life scene of an exchange happening. The picture shows a slice of their daily life, their dresses & the houses. The wall seems to be riddled by bullets, which of course they're not...looks more like mud splatters. The dog is a nice addition. The opposite view in the WS is also very fine. Well done my friend!

Ola Ricardo, With such a light, you just need to wait for an interesting daily life scene, as you've done! It has a wonderful general color, and nicely rendered texture... I may have cropped the lower part, just above the shadows in FG... A clear shot!

well, this image cries for more of the top part where shadows painted splendid patterns and shapes while the bottom could have been easily cropped as nothing special goes on there...
overall impression - pretty positive...

Julgava que a Núbia só começava em Assuão, mas pelos vistos estava errado. Esta é muito ao teu jeito: uma cena banal de uma rua do mais pacato que se possa imaginar, mas que consegues que seja muito interessante e de certa forma enchê-la de vida. Excelente enquadramento e uso das sombras.

hi ric,
very clear capture! what would you think this would look like if the FG shadows been cropped? i particularly like it because it reminds me of my days in a village in saudi arabia (i was not yet "afflicted" with fotography tho then) only this place looks much cleaner..and the stray dogs are all around as well.
