Photographer’s Note

UPDATE:
It's worth take a look ate the extra WSs (1, 2) that Stego added, mainly to understand the diferent sense of size that the Sphinx can have, when the POV and zoom changes.

As it's common knowledge, while Obélix was visiting Egypt he accidentally ended up hanging from the Sphinx's nose, breaking it.

This is my contribution of this legendary monument in TE. The Sphinx is part of the complex of the Giza Pyramids in Cairo. A recent long-term restauration project (1989-98) involved hand-cutting ten thousand limestone blocks, to refit the paws, legs and haunches of the beast; the missing nose and beard have not been replaced, deliberately.

Hello Ricardo,

This is one of the most original and indeed humorous of shots on TE, the young boy contemplating his friend! There are some very good lithographs, both by Napoleon's engineers, and a few years later by and English artist showing the Sphinx is less degraded shape, the nose still intact. You many be familiar with them.

Superb colour contrasts between the red tinted limestone of the Sphinx, & the blue sky, with excellent sharpness. The fence adds a not often seen graphism. Tfs!

i like the reason how the Sphinx's nose,broke,according Obélix stories.I like this frame with the boy to sit opposite the monument.The looks like to speak each other..The rails across the frame,is a nice decorated point in the scene.Well done my friend.

una aportación muy simpática y divertida a esta conocida maravilla del mundo, en un encuadre distinto y muy interesante, en el que este chico observa la Esfinge detrás de una reja metálica que parece querer protegerla de Obelix nuevamente.
Me gusta la sencillez compositiva, y el buen efecto gráfico que has conseguido, es una foto que atrae la mirada.

Hi Ricardo, Although the main image has these railings in front of it, I really like this shot, you have captured a lovely moment with the boy looking at the Sphinx's missing nose, the clear blue sky creates a great background & the excellent focus shows some wonderful texture, an informative note TFS, kind regards Wilson.

Concordo que é uma foto engraçada e original deste monumento. Só acho uma pena a grade em frente; pode haver quem goste, mas mim praticamente estraga o encanto da foto.
Outro detalhe: eu pensava que esta "cabeça de pedra" era muito maior! Ou isto é uma ilusão óptica e o rapaz está noutro local?

Have to admire your literary titles…first Gulliver & now Obelix, & of course the Clash of titans was also a movie title…This is a totally original POV & I admire how you composed it. I’m sure the guy is not in the same plane (depthwise) as the sphinx, but thanks to the lens, it does appear so & looks dramatic! Fine contrast with the blue sky. Darn those metal fences, wish Obelix did something about them! :-). Fine work my friend!

Cá está a Esfinge mas, de perfil para mostrar bem a falta do nariz!!! E com um admirador e tudo. Só não percebo são as grades. Está cerdada para não ser roubada?!!!
Quanto ao Obélix, já tenho saudade dos livros.
Tens aqui uma foto com um PdV muito original e com cores excelentes.

Olá Ricardo,

Já dei mais importância à originalidade e desprezei mais os "postais", não só de locais mais ou menos exóticos/distantes, como até de locais mais comuns/próximos, mas nesta aqui dou-te os parabéns, pois está muito bem apanhada além de ser muito original. O enquadramento é perfeito e as formas do perfil da esfinge e do miúdo combinam-se harmoniosamente. Inicialmente a grade incomodou-me, mas depois isso passou-me; não sei até se não a torna mais interessante, pelo ritmo que produz.

O mais curioso é que o miúdo não está a olhar para a esfinge, mas (suponho...) para a pirâmide que está atrás, bem mais distante do que as imagens que costumamos ver nos dão ideia. Parece que estão amuados um com o outro... :D

Gostei do humor do 1º parágrafo da tua nota. No rebanho de que fiz parte quando lá fui havia imensas crianças, o que além de ter sido uma surpresa, acabou por ter alguma piada, pois os miúdos, além de se entreterem uns com os outros, eram os ouvintes mais atentos do guia e era muito interessante ver algumas das reacções e ouvir alguns dos comentários que faziam, umas vezes hilariantes, outras vezes denotando uma capacidade de dedução e de observação notáveis; tive frequentemente a sensação que muitas crianças "aproveitaram" bem mais as visitas que muitos adultos. Por sinal, a nossa ida ao Egipto foi muito instigada pelo meu filho. Vem esta conversa toda a propósito que, para grande desilusão dos adultos, nenhum dos miúdos "papou" a história de que o nariz tinha sido partido pelo Obélix. :-)

Esta foto foi um bom pretexto para voltar a olhar para as minhas de 2005... Estou até a tentar resistir a mais um ataque de "macaquice de imitação", mesmo sabendo que não estão nada de especial, principalmente a nível técnico. Para já fico-me por pôr três como WS's (1, 2), a pretexto de mostrar ao xuaxo e ao ribeiroantonio como o tamanho aparente da esfinge pode ser tão diferente conforme o PdV e focal usada.

Hi Ricardo,
How to photograpgh something that is so well known. Well, you did very creative here using the boy in the frame together with the fence, i like that. The Sphinx is not that big, but still an impressive statue. To my knowledge the nose was shot of by French soldiers who felt bored during their stay in Egypt.

Obelix did it! I know, I watched on a DVD some weeks ago! Now, really, very crystal clear shot with vivid colors and the boy gives a reason to contrast the two side portraits.

achei esta imagem muito criativa e um tanto engraçada. Gostei do pov, das cores e da luz que deixa ver o rosto do menino e os detalhes da esfinge, ele até parece zangado com algo. Seria perfeito se a cerca estivesse num nivel um pouco mais baixo, deixando ver melhor o rosto do personagem, contudo, nem sempre dá para ganhar tudo, uma cena destas já é sorte grande
