Whirling Dervish Photo

Photographer’s Note

One of the treats in a visit to Cairo is an evening with the Whirling Dervishes. This show is free(!) - and worth far more. It was staged in a mosque in the Khan el Khalilli, but I've heard it has been moved to a site near the Citadel while the mosque was being refurbished.
This guy whirled for 25 minutes -non-stop - I know - I timed him! One hint if you do go -- take earplugs - the music is miked, and the concrete surroundings make it even louder - your ears are ringing as you leave.

This is a great shot.

I think that I'd come back and revisit this one later when your editing skills have progressed. I think a little work might bring out an even better shot.

Maybe a slight perspective tweak to get all the verticals to align?

Maybe some color/saturation/contrast adjustments to give the shot more snap? (Looks like there might be a bit of color cast in the white robes.)

An evocative performance I return to again and again ...
Very good capture of the moment.
I can't say I like the colors of the surroundings much
but I guess you would need several flood lights to change that ...

I would have cropped much closer to the central figure-the subject
and maybe play with the shutter speed to get some blurr and movement instead of total freeze ...

And yes,the Madrasa of Sultan Al Ghouri opposite Khan al Khalili is being refurbished
and the performance nowadays is inside the citadel ... Bummer.
