emka has recently presented so many beautiful mosques it made me think about the mosques which I have seen so far. The first one which came to my mind is the Alabaster Mosque in Cairo. I have visited this beautiful structure participating in an organized tour so my time was quite limited and therefore I would really like to visit it one day again having more time and the camera lenses which I own now. This photo presents fragment of the courtyard with ablution facilities.
The great Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha or Alabaster Mosque is a mosque situated in the Citadel of Cairo in Egypt and commissioned by Muhammad Ali Pasha between 1830 and 1848.
Situated on the summit of the citadel, this Ottoman mosque, the largest to be built in the first half of the 19th century, is, with its animated silhouette and twin minarets, the most visible mosque in Cairo. The mosque was built in memory of Tusun Pasha, Muhammad Ali's oldest son, who died in 1816.
This great mosque, along with the citadel, is one of the landmarks and tourist attractions of Cairo and is one of the first features to be seen when approaching the city from no matter which side.
Before completion of the mosque, the alabastered panels from the upper walls were taken away and used for the palaces of Abbas I. The stripped walls were clad with wood painted to look like marble. In 1899 the mosque showed signs of cracking and some inadequate repairs were undertaken. But the condition of the mosque became so dangerous that a complete scheme of restoration was ordered by King Fuad in 1931 and was finally completed under King Farouk in 1939.
Muhammad Ali Pasha was buried in a tomb carved from Carrara marble, in the courtyard of the mosque. His body was transferred here from Hawsh al-Basha in 1857.
The main material is limestone but the lower storey and forecourt is tiled with alabaster up to 11,3 meters. The external facades are severe and angular and rise about four storeys until the level of the lead-covered domes.

Cairo without a soul in sight, that is quite unusual, knowing the place to be so bustling. But this mosque is sublime indeed. The alabaster is just such a beautiful stone to build with and the richly decorated interiors are gorgeous.
have a great week

You made me remember visiting during a morning the main mosques of Cairo, beginning by this , being the far one, also the great views of Cairo and desert from the terrace of the citadel, advantages of traveling by ourselves...
For being in a group you managed to compose an interesting capture with original POV, from a corner showing columns, carvings an a file of domes at the back and all empty
Well done, congrats

Hi Mariusz, A very beautiful view of these architectures. Excellent POV with so much details and sharpness. Good management of lights. I like the bronze colour and it framed the image perfectly. Thank very much

cześć Mariusz, Widzę że zainspirowała m Cie do pogrzebania w archiwum. Znakomicie przetrwało to zdjęcie próbę czasu. Świetny kadr, podobają mi sie te kopułki na tle błękitu nieba. Mnóstwo ładnych detali, doskonale wyszły tez partie w cieniu.
To meczet w tureckim stylu i wszystkie wycieczki zorganizowane tam chodzą. Ale dla mnie meczetów zawsze za mało, więc na cały dzień odłączyłam sie od wycieczki i zobaczyłam kilka innych. Szkoda, że wtedy nie miałam aparatu :((
PS. Juz pojutrze.. :)

The name of this place alone summons up very strong images, and the scene of the photo does not disappoint. The ground here is stunning, and the level of detail carved into the columns is wonderful to behold. I would imagine this as an extremely impressive place to see in person. I really like this composition, it has depth, details and a beautiful sky.
thanks as always

For an organised tour, you have done amazingly well to capture this shot without lots of people wandering around!
It is a beautiful place, with the most exquisite carvings and floor textures that could be adverts for the shiniest cleaning products!
I love how you have guided us into the shot with the curved line of columns, to meet a further line of arches and columns and hints of fretted windows. I love those domes with their metal deco.
This is a beautifully composed shot, rich in details.
Have a lovely week,

Although you complain that this one was taken in the days when you had a smaller selction of lenses and other equipment, nevertheless this is a splendid photograph, perfectly composed, well exposed, stunningly sharp and with beautiful light and colours.
I love how the curvature at ground level on the left leads the eye into the frame. The fine buildings stand out beautifully against the clear blue sky and the subtle reflections on the polished floor are delightful.
An interesting note too.

J'aime bien le cadrage serré sur la courbe offerte par le bātiment en avant plan qui dirige le regard vers cette série d'arches qui va dans une autre direction, le tout sous une lumičre spectaculaire.

Hello Mariusz -The lovely quiet precincts of the mosque and without the presence of hordes of people we can enjoy the decorative architectural details without impediment. I like the overlapping of the features here as it gives a feeling for the space and scale of the building. Nicely done! warm regards Rosemary

So much of interesting detail in this scene has been caught in the frame and substantially good work. You have a style to your composition which superbly fit in diagonally with the domes extremely stand out to polarised blue sky with interest on the left frame. Great that you managed the exposure so well without hard shadows minus detail wash out as the bright masonary are so well highlighted. A great work indeed with much satisfying result, Congrats

Hello Mariusz, sometimes it helps to include people in a shot and equally there are times to be able to view the entire scene without distraction as here in this imaginatively composed image.
The details of the the carvings are beautifully rendered with the tones and colours simply delightful.
Best regards Les.

Ciao e buona serata

Beautiful presentation of this courtyard with its elegant columns, arches and domes and a good closer view of the artwork at the left side.
This mosque certainly has a lot of wonderful architectural details to admire.
Best regards, Paul

Ciao dear Mariusz
What a superb photo and what a mosque. I can't keep my eyes off the silvery gold reflections on the floor and love how you used a tight frame to accentuate the angles of the edifice on the left. The arches in the BG are a delight. I'm glad that Malgo inspired you to post this wonderful photo and can't believe you've been hiding it from us for so long.
Thanks for sharing, have a beautiful day

here we have a photo with an attractive fg/bg subject seperation that works well.
excellent lighting all around, no over exposed areas and the arches really steal the show. beautiful piece of art.
nice work as your usual :)

Exquisite photo of the ancient architecture's, Mariusz.
Nicely combined two edifices within the mosque, placed one round shape contrast the direct line of archs.
Fine sharp details and clarity.
