Aswan is so far south in Egypt that it almost feels like a different country. It is home to Arabs as well a close-knit community called the Nubians, who mostly live on the Elephantine Island in the Nile. They offer rides on the Feluccas whose sails add to the already beautiful landscape of this city.
Not far from the Nile, in one of the little streets near the main bazaar, this serious looking old man sits with his cane keeping a vigilant eye on passersby. Upon investigation, it was revealed that he was indeed a security guard watching out for untoward incidents around the shuttered shops in the evenings.
