Temple of Karnak

Along one of the avenues, ram-like statues stand guard before the temples of Karnak. The ram was considered to be sacred to Amun, the patron god of Thebes.

Karnak is a majestic gigantic complex of many temples. The site measures 1.5 kilometers by 800 meters and dates back to the XIII dynasty. The Amun Temple alone measures 260,000 square meters. Built, added to, dismantled, restored, and decorated over nearly 1,500 years, Karnak was the most important place to worship in Egypt during the height of Theban power and was called the Ipet-Isut, meaning “The Most Perfect of Places.”

Hello Betty
This is a good composition with the light on the rams and yet not the reconstucted columns and wall behind. However there is nothing in the photo to convey the size of the rams. In saying that I do think this photo works well with no contrasting colours as it almost has a sepia look about it. Well done, Marlene

Hello Betty, this is a very good shot of this remarkably old piece of history. The temple and the rams themselves seem to be in good condition, given their age. It looks from the shadowing as if the sun was directly overhead, but you've maintained good control of the light throughout.

Thanks, John

Ciao Betty,
nice shot from this important historic site.
good use of light, even though there was not a beautiful grazing light and nice colors,
have a nice week end
Giorgio

Hello Betty,

Your photograph demonstrates excellent composition — with the lighting of the ram statues setting them off against the somewhat subdued lighting of the background. Your notes — succinct but highly informative — complete a tidy TE package. I have a fleeting memory of the statues from my visit there in 1997.

Warm regards,

Bulent

betty

another shot very beautiful. I liked this pov and the lines created by the sculptures and the columns. The light at noon is very strong and this isn't very nice to images but you got the best in this conditions.

hugs

jorge
