Photographer’s Note
In the outskirts of Mut, the capital of Dakhla Oasis, I found this worker returning from another day in the fields. I was strolling around the cultivated areas and surrounding dunes near the sunset hour when I found a cemetery, which can be seen on the left background of this image. When I started to take photos of it the worker was passing by and, as many Egypcians do, he started communicating with me. "Welcome to Egypt" is usually the first thing they all say. If I respond something in arabic they feel very happy and excited to know more about me. I tried to say a few more arabic words and although his English wasn't good, we managed to comunicate a few more sentences with the help of gesture language. After a while he asked me for a photo and this was the cheerful result.

Hi Ricardo,
A very good portrait of this man and nice to read about your meeting in the note. The low light was great here, adding pleasant warm hues to the view. Also good composition. Thanks for sharing!

Hello Ricardo!
Another wonderful photo in your Egypt gallery, I like this one a lot. This is a great daily life shot of the worker returning from the field. You took this photo in the exactly right moment, so I like the expression in his face very much. The mood is captured very well here! So, as I can read in your note, the Egypcians are very friendly, how nice. I know it from other countries (like Morocco or Syria), when you respond something in arabic, the people are really happy, like this man obviously was :-)
Anyway, a fantastic shot, you did really well with this one!
Best regards and have a nice day,
Jonas

I can imagine how strange they find it when we want to take photos of what to them is very ordinary. I like the way you have captured his standing next to the fruits of his work. He looks very friendly and happy to meet you. You now speak Arabic? It is always good to try and learn some of the language of where you visit.

Hi Ricardo.
Interesting story. It is always a good thing to know some words in the local language and then to try communicate with the people. It is also what I always do - I learn something of the language before the trip and have a phrasebook with me. Then the people are very friendly. Very nice portrait of the smiling man. Good light and composition. Warm regards

Bonjour, mon ami Ric,

Great shot. Love the expression and especially the "Texas" belt buckle. I have to say, that Mut was my favorite place I visited in Egypt, so "non-touristy" compared to most of the country.
Great shot

I always enjoy this kind of portrait, especially when they are spontaneous like the man you are showing...His smile is beautiful and I like the way he is playing with both hands, maybe trying to tell you something! Fine luminosity and a good sense of depth.
Cheers
