Photographer’s Note

The palm tree will die but Rameses II will live on as 'Rameses the Great' the prolific ruler of Egypt who reigned for 67 years between 1292BC and 1225BC. Rameses II strove to preserve the union of upper and lower Egypt and he fought to reclaim territory in Africa and western Asia. He was an ambitious builder, a successful general, a popular ruler and a father to 100 children.

This monument at the Karnak Temple in Luxor stands 16metres high and is one of the many monuments he left throughout Egypt for his own glorification.

Hi Marlene, This tight cropping works really well here .In fact more could have been removed from the bottom.The offset faceless statute is so dominant,its the simplicity of the image which makes it work so well for me ,just four colours. Thanks Tom.

Hallo Marlene!
It's me again! Yeah, nice work! Wonderful clear blue sky, it kind of makes the palm tree and the statue to stand out! I just mind that you could've crop the bottom for 10px and give extra 10px on the right side so the arm wouldn't be cut-off (the tiny bit of the elbow), but this is just a notice! All in all I like your work very much. You've got so much to offer us...

The details and clarity of this picture are excellent. I like including the palm tree with the statue of Rameses II for interest and contast against the bright blue sky.

Hi Marlene,
such an effective presentation. The statue and the palm just simply work very well.
Brilliant capture with a sumple gesture fron the lens.
A nice presentation of this natural history.
